Lance Storm criticizes Undertaker’s new submission hold
Feb 20, 2008 - 10:15 AM

Lance Storm posted a commentary on StormWrestling.com in which he explains why he doesn’t care for Undertaker’s new submission hold. “In MMA being on your back is not a bad thing, because you can’t be pinned, but in pro wrestling that is the worst possible position to be in,” Storm writes. He also notes that he never cared for the submission move Tazz used.

Powell’s POV: Storm noted that an AWA announcer once joked that Nick Bockwinkel didn’t even sleep on his back. AWA announcers also claimed that if Nick was sleeping on his back, you could whisper, “One, two...” and he’d kick out in his sleep. Great stuff. Storm also noted that choking is technically illegal in pro wrestling. He’s right. One day chokes were illegal and then suddenly wrestlers were allowed to start using them as finishing moves. The announcers should have taken a second to mention the rule change, but I don't think too many fans are losing sleep over it.

Is it possible that Storm stumbled onto a future match finish where Taker is gets pinned because his shoulders are on the mat while he applies the hold? More than anything, I have a problem with Taker’s opponents bleeding when he uses this finisher. Most wrestling fans have watched MMA and realize that fighters don’t bleed from the mouth when they’re locked in choke holds.

It was a brilliant final hook for the pay-per-view.
It was a turnoff, but it's par for the course with WWE.
