Mayweather was going to play a heel role at one time
Feb 18, 2008 - 12:11 PM

The National Ledger is reporting that Floyd Mayweather was originally slated to appear at WrestleMania 24 as a heel. According to the article, Mayweather was slated to team with MVP for a match against Rey Mysterio and a partner. To read the full article, click here.

Powell’s POV: I haven’t confirmed the report that this was the original plan. Assuming that was the case, I can only imagine that Mayweather would have turned on MVP at the end of that tag match, just as Evander Holyfield did when he served as the special guest referee of an MVP vs. Matt Hardy boxing match. I definitely think WWE made the right call to feature Mayweather as a babyface and I’m surprised they would even consider approaching it any other way.

It was a brilliant final hook for the pay-per-view.
It was a turnoff, but it's par for the course with WWE.
It was one of the sleaziest stunts the company has ever done.
