Foley concedes he’s no longer a ratings draw
Feb 11, 2008 - 05:54 PM |
|
Mick Foley was honest about his place in the wrestling business during an interview with the “Honestly, the days when I really meant ratings or buy rates are over, so I’m realistic in thinking I can be an enjoyable asset to the show, but probably not a main event guy anymore,” Foley said in interview over the weekend. “I’m not so worried about making the major impact, as I am just being a welcome addition, and if that means showing up in a recurring role several times a year I have no problem with that.” You can read the rest of the interview by visiting the U.K. Sun website.
Powell’s POV: I think Mick is right, but WWE deserves some of the blame for letting his stock slide. They paid him a lot of money to stick with the company and not jump to TNA, but they haven’t done anything meaningful with him since then. I don’t know if Vince McMahon was bothered by Foley flirting with another group or if he lost faith in him somewhere along the way, but for some reason they haven’t even tried to make his appearances special since he appeared on the ECW pay-per-view. I’m not suggesting that Foley should be pushed at the expense of the younger wrestlers, nor do I believe Foley would want that to happen. If nothing else, the company should have kept Foley strong so that he could help create new stars when he does appear, much like he helped Randy Orton get over.
