WWE Main Event Live on WWE Network
Phoenix, Arizona at U.S. Airways Arena

Main Event opened with the SummerSlam recap video that aired on Raw... Byron Saxton and Michael Cole were on commentary. Cole said he was happy to be back. Saxton said he their pairing was the beginning of something special...

Powell's POV: No Tom Phillips? I guess we'll see if he's doing backstage interviews. Based on the way they were talking, it seems like this is the pairing going forward rather than a one-off. I hope it means they're going to promote Phillips to Smackdown. I don't know if he's ready for the Friday night show, but there's simply no reason to have Cole work six hours of television every week. Furthermore, they need to prepare themselves for the future.

1. U.S. Champion Sheamus vs. Curtis Axel in a non-title match. Just before the match started, Cesaro made his entrance and sat in on commentary. Cesaro boasted about knowing five languages and said others could do it if they did something unheard of and actually went to school. There was a commercial a few minutes into the match. [C]

Sheamus hit his ten forearm shots to the chest, then hit a rolling senton. Sheamus went to the corner and then performed his Brogue Kick finisher for the win. After the match, Cesaro picked up the U.S. Championship and checked it out before leaving it for Sheamus and then walking backstage...

Sheamus defeated Curtis Axel in 9:50.

Powell's POV: The finish looked pretty weak, as Axel put his hands up and the camera view showed that there was no contact. That said, I love the idea of the Sheamus vs. Cesaro match that they teased.

Saxton hyped the Big Show and Rowan main event. Cole interrupted to cut to a special message from Triple H. Hunter said John Cena submitted his request to to exercise his rematch clause, and Hunter said the request was granted...

Powell's POV: I'm not sure why the Triple H character would make the match if he wanted the title off Cena so badly in the first place. It's not like he acted cocky about Lesnar's chances during the announcement. Anyway, it's odd that they opted to make the announcement on Main Event rather than on Raw.

Nikki Bella made her entrance and highlights of her attacking Brie Bella were shown... [C]

2. Nikki Bella vs. Emma. Nikki was in control early on and looked to the crowd in hopes of getting some heat. She got a few boos. Emma got a little offense, but Nikki finished her off with a backbreaker...

Nikki Bella defeated Emma in 3:45.

Powell's POV: Cole played up the idea that he expects more details about Nikki's relationship with The Authority to come out, so it looks like she will continue to be tied to them rather than flying solo in her feud with her sister. Nikki still looks pouty rather than arrogant and heelish.

Backstage, Renee Young interviewed Big Show and Mark Henry. Show joked that he was thinking about busting out some lucha moves during his match against Erick Rowan. Henry told him to finish him off so they could go eat. Henry also said that if Luke Harper gets in his face he has something he will stick in Harper's face... [C]

A replay of the Triple H announcement was shown... Cole hyped Cena's appearance on Monday's Raw television show...

3. Titus O'Neil and Heath Slater vs. Los Matadores (w/El Torito, Hornswoggle). Yes, Fernando is back. Hornswoggle dressed in a cow costume complete with udders. This led to such brilliant cow jokes as "this is udderly ridiculous" and "I hope he doesn't have a cow during this match." In the end, Slater hit a nice DDT for the win. After the match, Hornswoggle and Torito got the better of Slater and danced. Cole called it the "milk shake"...

Titus O'Neil and Heath Slater defeated Los Matadores in 4:15.

Powell's POV: The Slater winning streak continues and Cole continued his streak of fake laughing at WWE's lamest comedy. I get a kick out of Slater, but the Los Matadores and the little guys' comedy does nothing for me.

Backstage, Luke Harper said that you may walk amongst the clouds, but he taught us that in order to be saved you must pay for your sins. "Tonight, the giant comes crashing down." The camera pulled back and showed Erick Rowan wearing the sheep mask. said, "Big Show, run," Rowan said... [C]

A recap of the Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose match from Raw was shown...

Backstage, Renee Young interviewed Seth Rolllins, who said the fans were responsible for what happened to Dean Ambrose because they voted for the Raw match stipulation. He said Ambrose was in good company. He pointed out the losses that John Cena, Chris Jericho, and Jack Swagger suffered at SummerSlam.

Swagger entered the picture. Rollins mocked Swagger for not having Zeb Colter by his side. Rollins said he would fight Swagger, but not until Friday's Smackdown television show...

Ring entrances for the main event took place... Cole explained that the cinderblocks that were set up at ringside are normally not there. He said Rollins credited Kane for coming up with the idea in a WWE website interview... [C]

4. Big Show (w/Mark Henry) vs. Erick Rowan (w/Luke Harper). Rowan and Harper received the cellphone treatment during their entrances. Show controlled Rowan early with some chops. Rowan targeted Show's knee and went on the offensive. Rowan bodyslammed Show again and got a two count. Show came back and hit the Knockout Punch and got the win...

Big Show defeated Erick Rowan in 6:25.

Powell's POV: A decent big man main event. I'm not crazy about seeing Big Show bodyslammed two nights in a row. That's something that should seem like a major event when it happens. It was good to hear Zeb Colter's name during the Swagger and Rollins exchange, as there had been some concern that Zeb could be a budget cut casualty, when instead it appears as though he's simply selling the Rusev attack.

Overall, a good edition of Main Event. It was much more newsworthy than usual with Triple H announcing the Night of Champions main event, the beginning of a Sheamus vs. Cesaro feud, the return of Fernando, and the announcement of Rollins vs. Swagger for Smackdown. Stick around for WWE Smackdown TV taping spoilers.
