MUST-READ LISTING AAA News: More info on the taping date, location, and talent involved with "Lucha Underground" Aug 27, 2014 - 4:16 PM
El Rey Network issued a press release announcing the beginning of production on the "Lucha Underground" TV show in association with Lucha Libre AAA out of Mexico. It is noted that production will begin on September 6th in front of a live audience in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. The show is scheduled to debut on El Rey on Wednesday, October 8th at 8pm ET/PT.
So far, Lucha Libre AAA has announced five talents involved with the project including Blue Demon Jr., Fenix, Drago, Pentagon Jr., and Sexy Star. More names are expected to be announced in the near future.
Zim Says: Well, we finally have something official after years and years of speculation, rumors, and attempts at AAA running in the US after their early '90s L.A. run. Emmy Award-winner Mark Burnett and Robert Rodrigues are overseeing the production and storytelling of "Lucha Underground." It remains to be seen if these outside entities can enter the wrestling business and create change that gets fans buzzing, but they certainly have the production experience and capability to make this project something unique in the wrestling world.
The talent chosen vary from established luchador Blue Demon Jr. to some of Mexico's top up-and-coming high-flyers Fenix and Drago to former Reina de Reinas (Queen of Queens) Champion Sexy Star. I'm looking forward to seeing who else gets involved from AAA and beyond, as there are several rumored American indie names flying around as well.
