WWE Capitol Punishment
Aired live on pay-per-view
Washington, D.C. at Verizon Center

Shore's Slant: I am watching the show tonight with a group of Evo wrestlers. I will add their thoughts as well.

A video recapping the R-Truth vs. John Cena feud aired…The pyro lit up the stage and Michael Cole, Jerry "The King" Lawler, and Booker T checked in on commentary. Kofi Kingston's music hit and he came to the ring. Dolph and Vickie were out next…

1. Dolph Ziggler (w/Vickie Guerrero) defeated Kofi Kingston for the United States Championship at 11:07. Kofi hit several kicks and teased Trouble in Paradise. Ziggler ducked and hit a clothesline to take control. Ziggler worked basic offense and then Kofi ducked a Stinger Splash and took control. He teased the S.O.S. but Ziggler slid away. He finally hit it for a great near fall. Ziggler battled back and hit a superplex. Kofi tried for another S.O.S, but Ziggler slid around for a sleeper. Kofi drove him into the corner and then missed TIP. Ziggler tried for the Zig Zag, but Kofi held the ropes.

Ziggler crashed to the mat and Kofi went down on one knee. Vickie grabbed his nose and then his hair and Kofi sold. Dolph jumped and grabbed at Kofi's back. In a scary moment, Dolph dragged Kofi to the ground and worked the sleeper. Dolph used the rope to kick away and the ref stopped the match. There was a long delay and a lot of confusion and the ref awarded the belt to Dolph…

Shore's Slant: A mediocre match from these two, and the Evo guys agree. That's two odd endings in as many shows. What the hell is going on with the refs now? I don't care that they moved the title here. Neither guy was elevated, and the title means nothing.

Backstage, a limo pulled up and R-Truth got out with the title belt. Josh Matthews tried to ask him some questions and Truth blew him off. He walked up to Eve and tried to hit on her. She said she didn't know who he was anymore and Truth acted all creepy in her face. He walked off after harassing her some more…

Backstage, The Miz said all Alex Riley was good at was carrying the briefcase. He said there was a line between awesome and lucky and he was going to show it tonight. A video setup his feud with Riley…

2. Alex Riley defeated The Miz at 10:15. Riley got in a few strikes, but Miz hit a dirty punch and took control. Miz worked slow, methodical offense on Riley until Riley channeled Edge with a spear on Miz. Miz begged for mercy and tossed Riley to the floor. He followed and Riley tossed Miz into the announce table. Cole started yelling at Riley and Riley snatched him to the floor. Miz kicked Riley and rolled him to the ring. He grabbed the briefcase and went to the ring. The ref grabbed it out of his hand and Riley used the distraction to hit an Impaler DDT for the win…

Shore's Slant: Sorry for the distraction, a lot of people showed up and it kind of threw me off. Decent match but the absolute wrong finish. I think Miz needed one win here first to really make it feel special when Riley went over.

Backstage, Sgt. Slaughter talked with an Obama impersonator about ObamaCare. Vickie Guerrero walked up and sang, "Happy Father's Day" while trying to channel Marilyn Monroe. Fail…

A video recapped the Del Rio vs. Show feud. Del Rio made his entrance and Big Show attacked from behind. Show destroyed Del Rio all over the ringside area. Mark Henry ran out of nowhere and attacked Big Show. He tossed him over the announce table, and then hit the World's Strongest Slam through the Spanish announce table. He dropped Show's knee on the broken table and Show almost couldn't get in the ring. The ref counted and Show made it in at eight…

3. Alberto Del Rio defeated The Big Show at 4:56. Show fought to his feet and hit an early chokeslam. Del Rio rolled to the floor and then went to the top. He jumped off and Show caught for another chokeslam. Del Rio kicked the leg, and then hit several kicks on hit before locking on a cross-arm breaker on the leg. Show held for a long time and then grabbed the rope. Del Rio broke the hold, but Show couldn't make it to his feet so the ref stopped the match and awarded Del Rio the victory. A bunch of guys helped Show to the back as Del Rio posed in the ring…

Shore's Slant: I knew there had to be a catch, and Mark Henry served as one. There are a lot of technical problems with the show tonight. Not A/V technical but wrestling/live event technical. Things just seem to be off tonight.

R-Truth attacked a cameraman backstage because the man pointed out the name plate said John Cena when Truth asked for a picture to be taken…Matt Striker started to interview Wade Barrett, but Barrett took the mic and cut a promo all the way to the ring while shitting on America. Zeke was out next…

4. Ezekiel Jackson defeated Wade Barrett for the Intercontinental Championship at 6:40. The crowd chanted "We Want Ryder" and I had to agree. I took the over with one of the wrestlers when he predicted five body slams for Zeke. Trading Places bet. Barrett hit several moves, including Wasteland, but Zeke kicked out. Zeke ended up hitting four slams and followed with the torture rack for the win. Post-match Lawler asked Zeke what it felt like to be the new champ. Zeke put it over and did his catch phrase…

Shore's Slant: I honestly expected a squash there, color me surprised. Now maybe they can just move away from this now.

Backstage, Santino Marella tried to show the President the Cobra and Secret Service tackled him…C.M. Punk was interviewed by Josh Matthews and they argued of Matthews calling him a politician. Punk said he was going to be the most honest thing they had seen when he beat Rey Mysterio…

5. C.M. Punk defeated Rey Mysterio at 15:00. Punk took early control an wished Rey a Happy Father's Day. Mysterio fought back and clotheslined Punk over the top.

Mysterio rolled him back to the ring and went to the top. He hit a weak flying head-butt. He hit a springboard cross body and Punk rolled through for a near count. Rey ran to the top, but Punk stopped him and hit a super back suplex for two.

Punk hit a high knee in the corner and then a short arm whip to the corner. He dove in and Rey moved. Punk hit the post and Rey hit a 619 in the corner. He went to the top for a splash and Punk got the knees up.

Punk went for the GTS but Rey reversed into a hurricanranna for two. Rey went for the 619, but Punk ducked under and hooked him for the GTS and the clean pinfall victory.

Shore's Slant: Very good match. I really enjoyed that. I'm a little surprised with the Punk victory, but maybe they are trying to convince him to change his mind and re-sign.

A video recapped the Orton vs. Christian feud and ring introductions occurred…

6. Randy Orton defeated Christian to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at 14:08. Both men worked back and forth early as the announce team reminded us 13,875 times that Orton had suffered a concussion last week. Orton hit a strong whip to the corner and sold his head being cloudy.

They traded finisher attempts and Orton hit a very cool neck/backbreaker out of a lift. Orton setup for the RKO with the viper stuff. Christian countered with a killswitch for a great nearfall. Christian teased the spear and missed, but pushed off an RKO to hit the spear for two.

Orton hit the RKO out of nowhere and covered. Christian's foot was under the rope for the count, but the ref didn't see it. Christian went nuts after the rope pleading his case until Orton hit him with the title belt…

Shore's Slant: Well that match delivered, and they got a way to continue the angle. Nicely done. The Evo crew really liked it as well. The announce team should have called the foot under the rope before they did, but whatever. The announce team sucks.

A video hyped Money in the Bank…The Bellas escorted Keith Stone to the front row with a case of Keystone Light…A video recapped the Cena vs. Truth feud, but we were treated to a special added match instead…

7. Evan Bourne defeated Jack Swagger at 7:20. They wrestled the same match we have seen a million times. Bourne won after going for the Shooting Star Press and then landing on his feet and flipping out of the ankle lock into a pinfall.

Shore's Slant: I can't get excited for that. Give me a break.

Barak Obama was introduced and he came out and did some silly ass jokes. He started to leave and Booker T had him come to the ring and do a Spinaroonie. Kill me please…

8. John Cena defeated R-Truth to retain the WWE Championship at 14:40. The crowd was booing both guys at the start and never really got into it. Truth worked in control first and the crowd went to sleep. Cena came back and hit the five moves of doom, but vey weakly.

Cena slapped on the STF, but Truth made the ropes immediately. He followed with a scissor kick for a good near fall that the crowd acted like didn't happen. Truth hit his new finisher for another near fall and Cena rolled to the floor.

Truth followed and saw a kid with a Cena hat and cup of water. He put the hat on and took a sip of water. He handed back to the kid and the kid threw the water in his face. Cena ran over and tossed Truth in the ring for an AA and the win…

Shore's Slant: Dead crowd hurt this match, but it didn't have a lot to work with from the beginning. I never got into it and neither did anyone else here. A very lackluster finish for what was an OK PPV. Jason and I will have more to say in the member's exclusive audio review. Thanks for watching along with me tonight.
