Twilling's Blog: Looking at Shane McMahon leaving WWE, Nigel McGuinness going to TNA, where the best place for Nigel and Bryan Danielson is
By Rich Twilling Oct 21, 2009 - 03:59 PM

Wednesday, OCTOBER 21 – 3:59 P.M. (CT)

-Being an admitted soap opera fan, I see a lot of drama on television regarding family businesses. One thing that seems to ring true is that there is a high profile spot for every family member and everyone gets their opportunity to be the CEO. Well, such is not the case in real life and Shane McMahon will resign from WWE at the end of the calendar year.

Over the past several years, it certainly seems as though Stephanie McMahon and Triple H will be handed Vince McMahon’s roles and responsibilities. While Shane would have had a high level position, it would not have been as prestigious as Stephanie’s spot. This begs the question of did Shane leave to pursue other things because he wanted to, or because he felt he had no other choice?

I know business is business, but you would think Vince would have been able to give both Shane and Stephanie positions they would be happy with. It isn’t as if Shane is some hack that has been sleeping on the couch all day and staying out all night during his life. Shane is very talented and creative and this is WWE’s loss, regardless of the reason(s) it happened in the first place.

It is unfortunate that Shane seems to be the Fredo Corelone of the McMahon family. Shane will succeed in whatever he decides to do. I, for one, am very interested to see what he does next. He has money, creative and business talent, and the drive, so I am sure that whatever Shane’s next project is, it will be a successful one.

-Nigel McGuinness has signed with TNA and not WWE. If you have been following along on the main page, you know why. That aside, I just want to speculate as to whether or not Nigel is better off in TNA than WWE. Most people figured he would get a nice paycheck from WWE and he would be the next Evan Bourne (extremely talented and under utilized).

Nigel was saddled with a really uncool name in TNA, Desmond Wolfe. That should not hinder him too much since he is extremely talented. For those people who do not want to be spoiled, I will not reveal here who he will work with first, but it seems to be a high profile program, and that is a positive thing. I think being a main event level guy in TNA is better, right now, than being a lower to middle card guy in WWE.

-With Nigel going to TNA, rumors are running rampant about Bryan Danielson as well. If I had to guess, I would say Danielson is still going to WWE. I don’t know if he will be used there as he should be, but maybe he will. Given Bryan’s talents, most people would say he, like Nigel, would be better off and would have more opportunities in TNA.

I am glad that this did not turn out to be a case of TNA “stealing” Nigel from WWE, and whatever Danielson does should fall under that umbrella. If WWE and TNA got in a pissing contest over talent, I think it would be a negative thing for talent, because perhaps they would be hired under false and vengeful pretenses. In the end, I just want Nigel and Bryan to make their money, and have the opportunity to show off why they are both so damn good.

Twilling Update: I was a little behind on the story. Danielson isn't going anywhere. He is still with WWE.
