Twilling's Blog
Twilling's Blog: Looking forward to WrestleMania XXV, TNA looking solid, ROH week two
By Rich Twilling Mar 27, 2009 - 06:08 PM

Friday, MARCH 27 - 6:58 PM (CT)

-Last Monday's Raw was a big one for WWE. With the build to WrestleMania considered by many to be lackluster at best, they pulled out the big (and controversial) angle involving Randy Orton attacking and kissing Stephanie McMahon in front of a handcuffed Triple H. A lot of people said the angle went too far, but remember, this was a professional wrestling angle. It was really well done and it did a fantastic job setting up the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania.

On the flip side, the triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship is losing steam by the minute. While the WWE Championship feud is fueled by personal hatred and not necessarily focused on the WWE Title, the World Heavyweight Championship love triangle is just silly. Since when does John Cena not care about the title? What about Edge? He cares more about Vickie Guerrero than the world title?

Chris Jericho is going to face three legends at WrestleMania and most people are disappointed with that development. However, if Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan were not going to be in the match, there were not a whole lot of options. Ric Flair could come out of retirement for one more match. A lot of people will probably frown at that but which would you rather have?

-TNA Impact had their second solid show in a row last night. The TNA World Heavyweight Championship match at Lockdown between champion Sting and challenger Mick Foley is shaping up to be a very good encounter. Of course, it is not going to be the in ring masterpiece that Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe would be, but it could turn into a very nice cage match. The buildup has been fantastic and I never thought I would be interested in seeing a match between Sting and Foley.

Lethal Lockdown is also a fun concept that will most likely feature Angle and Jeff Jarrett as captains with Samoa Joe on Jarrett's team looking to take out the members of the Main Event Mafia. Lately, there has been some focus taken off of the Mafia vs. Frontline feud, and even if that is still the case, at least the Mafia is trying to take over again and someone is trying to stop them. TNA is showing some nice direction right now.

-I was one of the most excited people going into last Saturday's ROH television debut. I was kinder than most when critiquing the show as I felt it did a lot of things very well. They did not just throw their talent out there without telling us who they were. They all were given the opportunity to give promos. The in ring action was solid to good.

I did not like the fact that ROH Champion Nigel McGuinness was not on the show. For a debut show, you have to show everyone your best and beyond that, you have to give them a reason to come back and watch again. If ROH turns simply into a great wrestling show, people will (unfortunately) feel like they can skip it. I think they are on the right track and I hope to see them continue in a positive direction.
