3/21 Dot Net One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indy wrestling
Mar 21, 2014 - 02:45 PM

Welcome to the Dot Net One Shot. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): WrestleMania build has picked up in the last two weeks, but the story between Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker has been less than impressive. Were this any other match, it would be an outright failure, but having The Streak involved elevates even the weakest feuds. Hopefully, with Lesnar and Undertaker scheduled for Raw for the next two weeks, we'll see this story heat up.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): The final segment of Raw was fantastic. What I'm looking for now is a change in attitude from Daniel Bryan. I was happy to see him avoid more political metaphors, but he really didn't talk much. I hope next week we get the angry and focused Daniel Bryan people have been clamoring for.

Zack Zimmerman (Twitter - @InVasionZim): Say what you will about the past 12 months of programming, but I am getting genuinely excited about WrestleMania thanks in large part to the build. Granted, not everything has been great, but the story around Daniel Bryan's ascension, Lesnar vs. Taker, and Cena vs. Wyatt have me more optimistic than I envisioned I would be when this card was still being speculated on by fans. The rest of the card has yet to clearly take shape, but this year's lineup is already more appealing to me than last year's.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @TheRyanKester): Triple H's assault on Daniel Bryan was about as brutal as we will see on WWE television. They managed to put an insane amount of heat on Triple H just when they needed it the most, and I am looking forward to seeing what Triple H and Daniel Bryan come up with as a payoff for this angle at WrestleMania.

Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg): I'll go on record as the only contributor who wasn't completely blown away by RAWs closing segment. While the heat it put on HHH was good, I do feel the "fake cops" were a little too cheap, and the beat down was too dragged out. I prefer these angles to be quick and impactful, as opposed to long and cruel.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): If you had told me six months ago the biggest match on the WrestleMania card would be Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H I'm not sure if I would have laughed or cried. I certainly wouldn’t have thought it was the right idea. Give WWE credit for finally listening to their crowd and finding a very good way to fix some very bad booking.

TNA

Will Pruett: One huge logical flaw is hanging over the promotion right now: Why doesn't MVP, the new head of wrestling operations, outlaw any outside interference ever? What's a babyface authority figure for, other than assuring an even playing field?

Jake Barnett: Please, for the love of all that is decent, please let there be a long period of delay between now and the next time we have authority figure drama in TNA. I know this isn't going to happen, but TNA needs to differentiate itself from WWE, and this drama feels like a retread from all the bad WWE GM angles over the past 10 years.

Ryan Kester: TNA continues to have issues managing their roster. Several characters that have only recently turned have been turned back with no or very poor explanation. When turns get this watered down and characters lose any sense of tangible progression, people lose interest in those characters and stop having a reason to see their stories told to fruition.

Chris Shore: Impact started pretty good last night and then lost its way in the second hour. The first hour gives me hope that the show will continue to improve, but the second hour mocks me for being a rube who sees the world through rose-colored glasses.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (WWE Network): When I can think of nothing else to write about everything else, I'm going to hit y'all up with a match or show to go watch. This week, check out Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy from WWE Armageddon 2007. This was a huge match for Hardy and one of my favorite Triple H performances. Try not to get hyped when Triple H screams "Fight me!" at Hardy. You can't.

Jake Barnett (The Authority): We saw compelling performances from both Triple H and Stephanie on Monday night. They are both natural heels and seem to relish the role, so I hope this is the end of shades of gray and the beginning of much better defined characters for both of them.

Zack Zimmerman (Beyond Wrestling): This Sunday, Beyond Wrestling is running in Providence, RI. Chris Hero and Redragon will be making their debuts and the rest of the card is sure to impress. Regular readers will notice that I include this as my One Shot before every Beyond show, and for good reason. The wrestling world needs to know about Beyond's shows. If you can make it, get yourself there!

Ryan Kester (WWE Network): We're only a few weeks into the WWE Network, but I am already trying to remember how I managed without it. It's a very valuable tool for finding footage of wrestling history, and the broadcasts of wrestling such as Main Event have been almost flawless in their delivery. One can only hope WWE keeps up this level of performance for WrestleMania.

Darren Gutteridge (NXT): A handful of big indie names are getting try outs at the Performance Centre soon, and regardless of if they are hired or not, I hope it reassures people that the indie scene is still the premier source for talent. The WWE is casting there net wider these days to cover other sports, but they'd be slitting their own throats if they turn their back on it completely.

Chris Shore (Indies): Where are you guys? It's WrestleMania season and every indy in the world usually makes a big play for this time of year. All of them are doing their shows, but none of them are doing anything to catch the attention of the wrestling fans who always show up, and who are almost always willing to check out other wrestling as well. Instead, it's a bunch of lackluster promotion and flat hype. I continue to be concerned about the lack of growth in the independent market.
