2/27 Dot Net One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling
Feb 27, 2014 - 02:30 PM

Welcome to the Dot Net One Shots. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): The WWE Network is pretty much the best thing. Launch day wasn't perfect and it's taken a few days to get the on demand content working, but now that it is, it's the best thing. As a wrestling fan, I can only complain a little about he functionality of the Network, because the content is great.

Zack Zimmerman (Twitter - @InVasionZim): It looks like WWE has dug in their heels and will be going forward with the lineup that has been speculated for months. While it's a pleasant change for things to feel solidified going into a build, the things they're building toward are not quite what the fans want. The business can't be expected to cater to fans' every whim, but WWE is certainly going to look silly when their world title match gets the worst reaction in the history of pro wrestling.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @InnominatusTTV): The launch of the Network did not go off without a hitch, but it has since stabilized and been absolutely devouring all of my free time.

Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg): Will it be considered the biggest mistake in Wrestlemania history if Batista vs Orton is put out there in it's current form? They've had some clunkers before, but not ones they've known about more than a month beforehand. A salvage operation has to start quickly, or the problem will only get worse.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): WrestleMania XXX is finally starting to come together, and while I like some of the matches that seem to be coming together, it still feels very underwhelming. There's a lot of time remaining, and no doubt WWE will do their best to make this seem like a big year, but as I sit here writing this, I have to admit it feels like just another PPV and far from the biggest show of the year.

TNA

Will Pruett: The biggest issue in TNA continues to be the dissonance between their very serious stories and their overtly comedic stories. They want to mix the two together and allow their serious characters to do comedy, and it doesn't work. I'm not sure what the philosophy is behind it.

Ryan Kester: I am glad to see Storm turning heel. The man has been in an absolute creative limbo for far too long, and this gives a chance for one of TNA's better talkers to have some fresh content.

Chris Shore: The first half hour of Impact was pretty brutal and the quarter-hour ratings show that a lot of people left after the first quarter hour and never returned. If TNA is hell bent on pushing Dixie down our throats, they need to at least make her champion look strong. Magnus's overconfidence while never having won anything on his own in this title reign simply compounds the problem.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (NXT): With Arrival happening live on the WWE Network today and the "This is NXT" shows introducing talent to the Network watching masses, WWE could have a breakout show on their hands. I know I'm looking forward tonight's show more than I have looked forward to a wrestling show in quite a while.

Zack Zimmerman (NXT): NXT Arrival is upon us! If you have functioning access to the WWE Network, I cannot recommend tuning in highly enough. The whole NXT crew is taking this as seriously as anything they ever have and I expect everything will be left out in the ring. NXT is special and essentially, this is their debut for American wrestling fans. Enjoy.

Ryan Kester (Nelson Frazier Jr.): I remember, as a kid, being mesmerized by the actions and the stories surrounding the Ministry of Darkness. A large part of that is owed to Nelson Frazier, then known as Viscera, with the size and strength he was able to display. I wish his friends and family the best as they mourn his passing.

Darren Gutteridge (NXT): The Arrival show is nearly upon us, and while I am intrigued to see the changes that will happen from here on out, I hope the surge in exposure doesn't effect the show negatively from a quality standpoint. NXT is beautifully simple in it's execution, and I worry Network time will mean a shift towards more over the top storylines usually reserved for the main roster.

Chris Shore (Triple H interview): If you haven't listened to the Paul Levesque (a/k/a Triple H) interview with the wrestling media you really should take a moment and listen. Levesque showed a solid understanding of how wrestling works both then and now, and showed great passion for his part in making things successful. This is unsurprising, but the Triple H conspiracy theorists out there should definitely give it a listen.
