12/19 Dot Net One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling
Dec 19, 2013 - 03:20 PM

Welcome to the Dot Net One Shots. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): Hokey as it is, the Battle of the Santas seems like campy gold to me. Silliness in wrestling can be awesome.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): If you payed $150+ to watch the Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan series of PPV matches, you got to see their best encounter on Cable TV on Monday. It wasn't intended that way, certainly, but that doesn't stop me from feeling stupid all the same.

Zack Zimmerman (Twitter - @InVasionZim): Randy Orton is in a very precarious spot. Sure, he's the headlining WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but crowds seem to sour on him more and more each week. His in ring work is enticing "boring" chants and his promos are as bland as ever. Nothing Randy Orton has presented since his heel turn is worthy of main event status and people are picking up on it.

Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg): I can't think of any reason there could be for not allowing Bryan mic time at the start of RAW. He can talk, he has points to make, and he's over huge. Seeing this continued downplaying of Bryan makes me question every theory of him winning the Rumble, a Chamber match or the title at Mania, because someone in charge clear has no faith in him as a major star.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): Better late than never with the great Randy Orton vs. Daniel Bryan match on Monday's Raw, but think of all the money that was left on the table over the past six months by not doing this then. WWE has to start doing a better job of long-term booking if they want to overcome the mistakes of late 2013.

TNA

Will Pruett: I'm oddly excited to see tonight's Dixieland Match. Ladder and Cage all in one gimmick? TNA has outdone themselves be coming up with a concept I used to rock with action figures when I was 12.

Jake Barnett: Feast or Fired is one of those gimmick matches that just needs to be flushed down the toilet. It's not that the effort is bad, but it's just one of those concepts that feels Bush league from start to finish. Poles and briefcases are terrible in any company and in all configurations.

Chris Shore: TNA crowns a new champion tonight, and whether it is Jeff Hardy or Magnus they need to make the story about the championship. Between flipping the title with Bully Ray and Chris Sabin and letting AJ leave with the belt to holding this ridiculous gimmick tournament, the TNA Championship has never been in worse standing and it desperately needs to be rebuilt if it is going to help the new, and future, champions.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (ROH): Final Battle happened and was broadcast starting Monday. Does ROH just expect their fan base to be unemployed?

Jake Barnett (Holidays): To everyone out there, stay safe and enjoy yourselves during your holiday celebrations. I hope the time off of work and the time spent with loved ones refreshes you for the New Year.

Zack Zimmerman (ROH): ROH Final Battle wasn't one of the hotter shows I've attended at the Hammerstein Ballroom, but there were several bright spots to reflect on. Chris Hero's return was well done and got a great reaction, the card was solid enough (aside from one real dud), and Kid Mojo didn't kill me or get me arrested. It was a good time.

Darren Gutteridge (NXT): NXT had an off week in my opinion with episode 199, but they certainly are stacking episode 200 up to be special. I'm hopeful we'll see WWE advertising the episode heavily through YouTube and WWE.COM content, just as I will be doing with special blog posts this week. Mine will be better of course, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try.

Chris Shore (ROH): By all accounts, Final Battle was a pretty good show but it happened in a little bit of a vacuum because of the poor build. I realize that without PPV ROH is only going to promote that show so much nationally, but if they want to be treated as a legitimate national promotion then they need to act like a legitimate national promotion and promote their big events, even if fans have to wait a little bit to see the results.
