11/7 Dot Net One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling
Nov 7, 2013 - 04:02 PM

Welcome to the Dot Net One Shots. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): I'm an optimist, so I try to find things to like about wrestling. WWE is making it hard to do so. Between hours upon hours being spent on a lawsuit, said lawsuit being solved illogically, and stupid corporate drama, I'm honestly inclined to stop watching. Wrestling is a depressing place right now.

Jeff Lutz (Twitter - @JeffreyDLutz): Why was WWE's announcing trio so gleeful about Big Show's lawsuit that could have left them without jobs? Can you imagine an NFL representative, when discussing a hypothetical lawsuit by a player against the league on its flagship highlight show or game broadcast, pointing out how good of a case that player has? Just two questions I had, among many others, about the inane storyline involving Big Show and Triple H as principals.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): If there was anyone backstage at Raw on Monday that left for their hotel thinking that they had knocked that show out of the park, they should be fired immediately.

Zack Zimmerman (Twitter - @InVasionZim): Raw was a prime example of what needs to be improved with the current direction of the WWE. The bell-to-bell wrestling with today's talent has the potential to be (and may well be) the best of any era, but the storyline flaws and week-to-week inconsistencies are ruining the quality of shows and value of PPVs. I think it would suit them well to take a "less is more" approach and let wrestlers do what they do.

Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg): For the many, MANY, negative things that are related to him (rightly or wrongly), John Cena can be a force for good. If you work with Cena, you are instantly more important than you have ever been. It's up to creative to capitalise on the exposure and build new stars, who can then somewhere down the line be fed into the upper card cycle. Sandow may act as a litmus test for how well the process will go while Cena is working on SD with the WHC.

TNA

Will Pruett: I'm not sure if Pacman Jones returning to TNA is a joke or an actual serious thing they are trying to hype. This was a low point for both TNA and Jones, to be honest. I'm not looking forward to reliving it on Impact this week.

Jeff Lutz: How about another sports analogy? What if the Chicago Bulls announce team teased an appearance at the next game by a former "world champion" whom the team would "bring home?" Jordan, right? At least Pippen. Even Horace Grant would be OK. Nope, it's Bill Wennington. Sorry, Bulls fans, you just got TNA'd!

Jake Barnett: I think what TNA needs to do is full on convert to a wrestling game show format. Circle gets the square? I don't think so! Let's settle this in a cage!

Zack Zimmerman: TNA is a satire of a wrestling promotion at this point. Again, the talent is there but the leadership and creative vision are not. What is really left to say?

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (ROH): The Final Battle main event change from this past week confuses me. I understand wanting Jay Briscoe in the title scene, but adding him to Adam Cole vs. Michael Elgin weakens the match. Any singles match including two of these three guys would be better than the triple threat. Jay Briscoe could have been put elsewhere on the card in a far more effective spot.

Jeff Lutz (Wrestling books): I just picked up David Shoemaker's new book, "The Squared Circle" and predictably can't put it down. Even though it irritates me that he's a better writer than me, I can overcome that to become enthralled by the stories he spins throughout the book. I'm just entering the "WrestleMania Era" portion of the book and I can't wait to read about some of the stars I grew up watching.

Jake Barnett WWE/Komen): How sad did John Cena look on Monday trying to put a positive spin on WWE failing to sell through it's Komen merchandise, and having to keep it available for the rest of the year? I can't be the only one who noticed they didn't have him announce some gaudy donation number, right?

Zack Zimmerman (WWE 2K14): The game is a solid-but-standard update to the franchise. There are new, little things that make the game an improvement over previous years' but overall little is different. The '30 Years of Wrestlemania' mode is a well-done travel through time and the gameplay is smooth, but basic. There are several roster members and creative aspects left out. As usual, the upcoming DLC packs promise to be the high points of the game.

Darren Gutteridge (NXT): It's a great first step for the NXT Title, the NXT Tag Titles, and the NXT arena to feature in WWE 2K14. I can't help but feel however that 2K missed a trick by not offering one or two NXT superstars as DLC. The full roster would limit the potential to advertise new stars in the coming years, but The Wyatts would have been a nice addition for those willing to pay extra.
