10/3 Dot Net One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling
Oct 3, 2013 - 02:21 PM

Welcome to the Dot Net One Shots. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): The biggest disappointment with the ongoing Daniel Bryan storyline is the lack of rage from Bryan. Why is he still cheerleading his "Yes" chants instead of getting upset about being robbed of the WWE Championship twice?

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): I'm not a huge fan if the direction WWE has taken with the main event story. Making it personal by involving Brie Bella is fine, but the lack of attention on the WWE Championship is puzzling.

Zack Zimmerman (Twitter - @InVasionZim): Ordinarily, the closing segment of Raw would've been by-the-book setup for babyface retribution at the PPV. That said, WWE has shown fans that regardless of how behind Bryan they get, they should expect the rug to get pulled out from under them. Here's hoping they make the right move and give Bryan a credible, well-deserved, (relatively) lengthy title reign.

Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg): The logic of "Big Show won't find another job" is ridiculous. I'm not even referring to the fact any wrestling company in the world would hire him - why wouldn't Show just go into something like private security? If you had a choice between a 7ft giant man and literally anybody else, who would you pick? It's yet another flaw in his "hard done by" story that is really starting to drag.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): Battleground is this Sunday and WWE has limped into it with a terrible build. The good news for us as reporters is that we will have a clear baseline of who will order WWE pay-per-views out of habit because while there are some things to look forward to once you've decided to buy, there isn't enough here to make most people buy the show.

TNA

Will Pruett: The story surrounding Magnus needs to be handled very carefully by TNA creative. I don't think the time is right for a Magnus heel turn and he can get over as a major star in the company. I hope his current direction only enhances him.

Jake Barnett: Bound for Glory is a few weeks away, and TNA only has 3 matches booked for their largest PPV of the year. Now that Dixie Carter and Hulk Hogan take up so much of the mindshare on Impact creatively, it's hard to believe they can adequately build the rest of the show.

Zack Zimmerman: I'll reserve further judgement on the Hulk Hogan-Dixie Carter angle until it plays out, but if the payoff is the rumored Hogan return at Bound For Glory, I will lose whatever remaining faith I have in TNA.

Chris Shore: As bad as WWE's build for Battleground has been, TNA's has been worse for Bound for Glory. The biggest difference though is in the level of each PPV. Battle ground is one of two October PPVs for WWE> Bound for Glory is THE event in TNA. With only three weeks to go, TNA should be embarrassed at where they are in the build for the show.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (General): I truly believe the next big thing in wrestling will be a version of wrestling without prominent authority figures. They aren't necessary and they usually create more logical fallacies than they solve. I don't want a super-stripped down product, I just want to see stories told without the crutch of authority.

Jake Barnett (Randy Orton): I know that being robotic and cold while doing violent things to people is part if Ortons's sociopath shtick, but does he always have to be so monotone? It nearly puts me to sleep during his longer promos, heel or babyface.

Zack Zimmerman (NXT): There are some really good things going on down in NXT. Sami Zayn is taking the developmental world by storm, Kassius Ohno returns to the ring this week, Bo Dallas is the most despicable heel in wrestling, and the upcoming storylines are very promising. If you haven't been keeping tabs, I highly suggest you catch up ASAP.

Darren Gutteridge (NXT): I think CJ Parker's name would have been way, way down my list of "Likely NXT stars to pop up on merchandise". He is a mid-card act on the show at this time, and has only been reintroduced recently, so he's either going to get pushed really hard soon, or moved to main roster, and neither of those seem likely based on his work so far.

Chris Shore (ROH): I never want to see Joe Koff in anything related to ROH storylines again. There is simply no reason to have him be a part of this other than stroking his ego. I'm not accusing him of stroking his own, but somebody somewhere is and it's unnecessary and inexcusable.
