9/26 Wednesday One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling
Sep 26, 2012 - 09:01 PM

Welcome to the Wednesday One Shots. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): There is a lot of talk going around about John Cena's minor surgery and the fact that he is beginning to age a bit. Who can be that next mega-star for WWE? Historically the exit (or decline) of one has led to a multi-year search for another (Hart, Luger, Diesel, and Michaels were all a part of the search for Austin). Is that search about to begin in WWE?

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @TheRyanKester): Daniel Bryan and Kane are one of the most entertaining things in wrestling today, but they don't fit for everything. They have worked thus far because Kane's dry delivery has meshed well with Bryan's over-the-top antics. having them in overly produces skits gives neither man a chance to shine, and I feel like they lost a bit of their magic from being in such skits on Raw.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): The Kane and Daniel Bryan thing has been all over the map for me. First I didn't like it. Then I enjoyed it. Then I hated it. The diner scenes this Monday pushed it way to far for me, and I don't think they can catch the magic again. What a shame.

TNA

Will Pruett: Is it just me, or is the Aces and Eights story just boring at this point? It began just after Slammiversary and was actually interesting for a few weeks in the middle. I understand waiting until Bound for Glory to pay it off, but perhaps it should have begun a month later.

Ryan Kester: Bound For Glory is only a few weeks out, but it certainly doesn't feel like it. Normally around this time I am starting to get hyped up for the show and have a few matches I am itching to see. This year's show hasn't grabbed me in the same way, and I get the sense it's because I can feel another roster-splitting faction war looming. TNA goes to that well consistently and Aces and Eights appears to be prime to be next year's rehash of the same old idea.

Chris Shore: I owe TNA and their fans an apology. I honestly didn't think they could get their act together. There are still problems. All promotions have them. But after weeks of good to very good TV, and a clear understanding of how to run house shows, TNA is proving me wrong. They are the little engine that could.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (????): Does it matter more to you how many people watch a wrestling show or if you personally enjoy it? I'll never understand why ratings seem to be such a big deal to the internet audience.

Ryan Kester (UFC): UFC 152 was a solid show, and UFC needed the strong outing after the canceled UFC 151. I hope UFC learns from that and uses some more long term planing with how they set up their fights, or simply cut back on the number of shows they produce.

Chris Shore (ROH): After the last major error in their iPPV platform, Joe Koff and ROH reached out to the press to face the music, a move all of us were rightly applauding. This time, they have decided to go the other way and be critical of sites that were critical of them. In the process, they have managed to alienate even more fans, a move that is not only not worthy of applause, but should lead to the dismissal of whoever approved the in-house blog that said it.
