9/14 One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts on Jerry "The King" Lawler
Sep 14, 2012 - 06:01 PM

Welcome to the Dot Not One Shots. Normally we present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc). Today, we all put aside wrestling to give our thoughts on Jerr "The King" Lawler.

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): When I think of Jerry Lawler as a performer, my mind doesn't go back to Memphis, mostly because I was not alive in his heyday there. I do think back to his first days in WWE. His feud with Bret Hart was the highlight of 1993 and a great way to rebuild Hart. Lawler's heel work at that time was inspired. I can't wait to hear his voice again on commentary and my prayers continue to be with him.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): There really isn't much I can say about Jerry Lawler that hasn't already been said better by people close to the situation. He is one of the titans of Pro Wrestling history, and I am personally a huge fan. Younger fans who haven't sought out DVD's or Youtube videos of Lawler in his prime are missing out on some great storytelling, and a performer who was truly ahead of his time. Many of Jerry Lawler's feuds and matches in Memphis became the blueprints for successful television in places like ECW, WCW, and WWE. I was extremely saddened to see what took place on Raw, but I am elated to hear that the prognosis is improving rapidly. I wish Jerry the absolute best, and I'll be cheering from my couch if and when he makes his triumphant return to the booth.

Mark Gessner (Twitter - @MarkGessner): Just a few weeks ago, I was praising King for the work he was doing as of late with Punk, and previously when he worked against Miz. Then tragedy struck going into the third and final hour of Raw. The surprising thing was that based on his match a hour prior, King looked great and didn't seem to miss a beat in the ring in the tag he worked with Orton, Ziggler, and Punk. The news that Michael Cole tweeted is exciting to hear and I look forward to him hopefully returning sooner rather than Lawler. To hear, Ric Flair explaining how King wrestles not because he needs to, but because he wants to due to his love of the business. Thoughts and prayers are still with him, his family, and friends, but it seems as he's passed through the eye of the storm and is hopefully onto smoother sailing.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @TheRyanKester): It warms my heart to hear about Lawler's continued recovery. I, like many, were taken back right back to the dark memory of Owen Hart I heard that Lawler collapsed and was needing CPR. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family ad I hope we hear more good news in the days to come.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): What started as a terrible week turned into a moment of joy Wednesday night when Michael Cole tweeted that he had just spoken to the King and informed us the man was in good spirits. Kudos to the WWE medical team for saving his life, and even more praise for Cole and his perfect example of a class act. Get well soon Jerry. Monday nights won't be the same without you.
