8/15 Wednesday One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling
Aug 15, 2012 - 07:46 PM

Welcome to the Wednesday One Shot. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): While Raw did not get me excited for SummerSlam on Sunday, I still am excited. Nothing can replace going to a wrestling show live and SummerSlam is always a fun one. The final hype from Brock Lesnar and Triple H left me feeling pessimistic, but knowing what Triple H is capable of when motivated and how good Brock was in April, this match is still must see. Say hi if you see me at Staples Center on Sunday. I'll be the guy in a homemade Bork Laser shirt.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): C.M. Punk and Daniel Bryan are still the most interesting characters on WWE TV. I wish the timing would have worked out better for their feud, as the match they had at Money in the Bank is my favorite WWE Title match of 2012 by a country mile. The Summerslam PPV is shaping up to have a lot of potential in the ring, but none of the stories have really sucked me in. It's kind of strange that we've had several 3 hour Raw episodes in a row, and I still don't feel like many of these feuds are really fleshed out. At least HBK made Triple H tolerable the last few weeks.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @TheRyanKester): The three hours Raws are really beginning to wear on me. WWE is doing their damnedest to make it work, but the third hour really feels like it drags on longer than it needs to and i worry that over-saturation will take effect sooner rather than later with weekly three hour Raws.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): The three hour concept is doing more damage to Raw than even I thought it would. Ratings continue to drop and football season is fast approaching. The hangover from Raw 1000 is still firmly in place, and we still do not see about half of the roster on TV on any given week. That is a failure of leadership.

TNA

Will Pruett: After the main event finish at Hardcore Justice I was confused. Do I place this in the box labeled "only in TNA finishes" or the one labeled "Dusty finishes that kind of worked?" At this moment I am leaning towards the latter. It wasn't perfect, but it was logical. The match between Austin Aries and Bobby Roode was great leading up to it. Now it is time to wonder who Aries could face in the Bound for Glory Series. If he is still champion in October, my money is on Kurt Angle (with A.J. Styles as a dark horse) to take the series and produce a memorable main event.

Jake Barnett: Can we get Austin Aries vs. Bully Ray for a Bound for Glory Main Event? It seems plausible now that Aries retained at Hardcore Justice, and Bully picked up a win. I really hope that's the case, as their previous feud was excellent and the added sizzle of the TNA Title would make for a great showdown. Hardcore Justice was a nice PPV effort from TNA, and I hope they can translate it to better television. TNA's biggest problem right now in my view is the albatross that is the AJ Styles and Claire storyline. It's past time to drain that swamp.

Ryan Kester: It's odd to see TNA move on from Storm vs. Roode headlining Bound For Glory. They can still certainly have that math, but it seemed tailor made for the TNA Championship considering the feud's backstory.

Chris Shore: Another good PPV from TNA with Hardcore Justice. Creative is still a little raw (no pun intended) around the edges with some of the comedy stuff, but if there is any company that is on the creative upstroke, it is TNA. Check them out if you haven't in a while. I will not promise you will enjoy everything you see (I don't think ANY show could do that), but I'm willing to bet you are more happy than sad when you are finished. I know I am.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (Scooby Doo): How great of an idea is WWE getting involved with a Scooby Doo movie? This may actually be the first WWE Film I watch. We can only hope that somehow we get an entirely animated two hour episode of Smackdown. You might think I'm joking, but I'm not. I want to watch an animated wrestling show.

Jake Barnett (ROH): Kevin Steen punches people at ROH shows. It's an interesting tactic to boost ticket sales. Maybe it worked for Cornette in Smoky Mountain.

Ryan Kester (UFC): Although a lot of the brouhaha coming out of UFC 150 surrounds the main event's controversial conclusion, what I took from the event is how much of a badass Donald Cerrone is. He has impressed me every time I've seen him fight and last Saturday was no different. His KO of Guillard was a sight to see.

Chris Shore (PWX): Pro Wrestling eXperience tapes their next round of TV this weekend in York, SC and Charlotte, NC. It has been a treat working as the play by play guy for the company, but this weekend takes the cake because I will get to pull out the bucket list and mark "Call a match with Steve Corino" off the list. If you haven't heard Corino on the headsets you are missing out. I just hope I can keep up.
