6/13 Wednesday One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indy wrestling
Jun 13, 2012 - 09:19 PM

Welcome to the Wednesday One Shot. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): Someone pinch me! Dolph Ziggler is in a World Championship match and it isn't at the Royal Rumble? That's amazing! Sure, it took about 10 people hitting the injured list ahead of him, but this has to be a reason for optimism. We could have easily seen Great Khali in this spot.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): Raw was a much better show than what WWE has put in recently, but there is still a lot of concern for me about that third hour. It's difficult to sit and watch anything for three hours weekly, and despite Raw having better programming I still found myself ready for it to be over at the end of the second hour.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @TheRyanKester): The WWE Championship storyline remains the most entertaining thing on WWE television, and that thanks in no small part to AJ's recent performances. She is playing crazy extremely well and it's because of her that I have no real idea how the No Way Out match will go. It's not often in WWE that we get a woman character that is so well developed, and I am happy to see AJ living up to the opportunity she's been presented with.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): So now we have John Cena's firing vs. John Laurinaitis's firing? If Cena loses, he will have been fired three times in, literally, 19 months. Across those two firings, he missed only a handful of shows. What's new is apparently new again in WWE. If Big Johnny loses, we have a week pay off to the storyline. This is a weak main event for No Way Out.

TNA

Will Pruett: At this moment TNA is coming off of their second good pay-per-view for the first time in years. If you don't watch the main event, the show was well put together and it came to a perfect crescendo with Angle and Styles vs. Daniels and Kazarian. Can just pretend that Roode vs. Sting was just a special feature?

Jake Barnett: I thought Slammiversary outdid my expectations in almost every way, aside from the unfortunate close to the show. I think fans got their money's worth, but god damn it's frustrating to end a strong show in a whimper like they did.

Ryan Kester: Slammiversary, outside of the main event and a few undercard matches, was a very well-paced, well-wrestled, and entertaining show. If TNA can keep that type of quality up, they will be in a great position.

Chris Shore: TNA irritates me so much right now. I want to see them succeed, and they have a feel about them like things might be good very soon. But the continuing nagging problems do just that, nag.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (ROH): The hottest tag team scene in wrestling has become a faint reflection of what it once was. The never-ending feud between The Briscoes and Haas and Benjamin has hurt it. Hopefully they can get back on track with teams like The Young Bucks and All Night Express anchoring them.

Jake Barnett (ROH): Best in the World is shaping up to be a very entertaining show. You be hard pressed to find a card full of more opportunities for great athleticism. The undercard is full of potential. Steen and Richards have delivered a strong build for their rematch. The question is, can ROH's technical crew do right by their talent and show it to us in the way it deserves.

Ryan Kester (ROH): While there are several aspects of ROH that prevent me from fully investing in the product, having Kevin Steen as the ROH Champion has been to the company's benefit. Steen is extremely entertaining and he has managed to make me care about Richards, which after so many lengthy and uninspiring main event matches is quite a feat.

Chris Shore (Dot Net): I realized when I opened the template for this article that we have been doing this one shot gimmick for a little over a year now. It went away, and our readers demanded it back. Putting these together each week, I'm reminded why you guys clamored for it. Jason doesn't like it when we pat ourselves on the back, so I won't. Instead, I will thank the fantastic crew I get the honor to work with every week. Thanks to Will, Jake, and Ryan for providing cover for my shortcomings. You're a great crew.
