Pros and Cons: Twilling debuts a new column looking at both sides of the argument involving JBL and John Cena, Kane, and C.M. Punk

In this column I plan to focus on a few topics, making what I think will be popular arguments for both sides of the issue. My goal is to allow both me and you, the reader, to see altering points of view. The arguments are not my own; but I will give my two cents on each topic.
JBL runs over John Cena:
Argument For: Fans that enjoyed this angle would probably cite the Attitude Era and more specifically, the Survivor Series in which Steve Austin picked up Triple H via forklift while he was in a car and dropped him from several feet in the air. Some may argue that the angle left the show on a cliffhanger note, which will get people to tune in to see what happens next. Others might say it further escalated the very personal feud between the two.
Argument Against: Two words: Attempted murder. No matter how you look at it, JBL should be going to jail. Wrestling shows are supposed to suspend belief and logic, but this went too far. Not only that, but if that car did hit John Cena, he would be dead, period. However, we all know Cena will wrestle at the PPV. This angle will not make Cena more of a fan favorite and will not put additional heat on JBL. Furthermore, those who did not like the end of Raw may say it was a cheap rip-off of cooler angles from the past.
Twill’s Two Cents: While it was something we really have not seen in awhile, it was lackluster. As I said in my Raw report, Randy Orton punts someone in the head and that person misses multiple weeks. According to wwe.com, the car “grazed” Cena, but even with that, he would be out indefinitely. If this was an angle to take Cena out due to a real injury or to film a movie, I would be more for it. However, since he is going to wrestle at the PPV, I think it sucked.
Kane snaps again:
Argument For: The unpredictability of Kane’s character is the only thing keeping him fresh. Despite being unmasked, he has been basically the same character for eleven years. The way he snapped on Michael Cole, only to apologize later, was intriguing. Also, since the revelation of who “he” is will keep Kane interesting for weeks to come.
Argument Against: Kane is never going to be a World Champion, so why is he constantly involved in the main event picture? Why should we care about who “he” is when it will probably be Paul Bearer or some other rehashed character from Kane’s past? The fans will never care about Kane as a top guy, so why devote so much attention to him? It is time to move on.
Twill’s Two Cents: What bothers me is that when Kane is a babyface, he seems like a regular guy that the announcers like. When he turns heel, he all of a sudden becomes public enemy number one and the announcers act surprised at his antics, forgetting that he once set Jim Ross on fire and gave Linda McMahon a tombstone piledriver. I do not mind this angle because although I do not see Kane as a top guy, I am all for making the midcard guys interesting.
The booking of C.M. Punk:
Argument For: Punk, by nature, loves competition. Steve Austin always said the best characters are those that are the real person amped up a bit. Punk should wrestle often because he that is what he loves to do. It is not in his nature to turn down a challenge. He struggles to win his matches because that too is his character. He is not the type of guy that will dominate matches.
Argument Against: Punk is being made to look weak. When other wrestlers doubt him on camera, the fans will do the same. When he struggles to beat someone like Snitsky, his credibility gets shot to hell. The only way to make him look like a credible champion is to have him act like one. He also needs to win his TV matches in overwhelming fashion, so the fans will want to see him on PPV.
Twill’s Two Cents: I like the way Punk is being booked. If every champion was booked like Triple H, things would get stale quickly. Punk is a confident underdog and his character has not changed one bit since winning the title, which is a good thing. I especially loved how he stood up to Batista on Raw last night. He was made out to be the “little brother” type and he said enough was enough. I hope they keep the title on Punk and let him flourish.
