TNA Championship situation with Samoa Joe and Booker T, Sting is waste of money

-Call me old school, but I think a pay-per-view show should not end with uncertainty. The idea behind free TV is to get people to buy PPVs; booking a PPV to get people to tune into the TV show is backwards. The ending of Victory Road was not as loathed as I thought it would be and thus, TNA seems to be getting a pass here.

In the current wrestling landscape of monthly PPVs, TNA and WWE have to be creative when continuing a feud. However, ending a main event championship match without a definitive champion is bad booking. Furthermore, TNA has overdone the “Who is the champion?” bit.

Nobody sees Booker T as a long term TNA World Heavyweight Champion. However, Samoa Joe won the title about a year too late. He was white hot and for some reason, TNA elected not to put the title on him. Since winning the championship, his character went from badass to whiner.

Last week in my blog, I said it would be a good idea to give Booker the title. I cited booking Joe as a babyface with multiple odds against him and having him overcome those odds to regain the title. On top of that, it would give TNA the opportunity to turn him back into that badass he used to be and booking him as such when he regained the title. I guess it would be a “redo.” Joe is ridiculously talented and is the guy they could build the company around for years to come. However, his title reign has been anything but spectacular. Let us just hope they make a decision regarding the title this week.

-I cannot believe this, but I am going with two TNA topics in a row. While I am frustrated with how Samoa Joe is being booked, at least there is a lot to work with there. To me, Sting could very well be the biggest waste of money in wrestling. Sure, Kip James, Snitsky, and many others could be added to that list, but none of them make the kind of coin Sting does.

I have mentioned this before, but I just do not see the appeal of Sting. He is a good worker but nothing more. He is a below average promo guy. He commands a lot of money but he is a part timer, so it is difficult to build anything around him. On top of that, he just is not very interesting. Way back when, Ric Flair made Sting a star, but Flair is not around anymore.

Sting does intrigue me from time to time, but anyone in a similar role would do the same. If I never saw Sting again on my TV, that would be cool with me. Now, Steve Borden seems like a good guy, so I am not bashing him personally. However, I just have never seen why he is mentioned in the same category as other legends. I think his money and TV time could go and should go to guys that will help take the company to the next level. Sting is not someone who will put the company in a better place with his presence.
