A lot of you wrote me and said you enjoyed the “Pros and Cons” column. Thank you. I have decided to tweak the format a bit and go with a straight “Buy or Sell” column. I will present the topic as I did before, but instead of giving both sides of the argument, I will either buy or sell. This way, I can hit numerous topics, that may otherwise go overlooked, in a concise matter. I hope you enjoy the new format.
Today’s Rundown: Great American Bash results, Title changes, PPV card omissions, C.M. Punk, Brian Kendrick, Evan Bourne
JBL defeats John Cena: After mulling this one over, I am definitely buying. JBL is a true, traditional heel. Some people may not like him but he is needed. He had never defeated John Cena on PPV despite their numerous matches. Cena could job cleanly to Val Venis and still have credibility. JBL needed this win.
Chris Jericho defeats Shawn Michaels by referee stoppage: I am buying this big time. This feud has been the best thing going in WWE over the past few months. This win made Jericho look very strong, it plays perfectly into their storyline, it keeps the feud going, and it does little to diminish Michaels. I just hope Jericho will remain strong after Michaels gets his win back.
Matt Hardy loses the United States Championship: I am selling this. Hardy’s feud with MVP was so well done over the many months that it occurred. His subsequent win of the title was put over as a major event in his personal and professional life. However, the booking of Hardy as champion has been less than spectacular. Do not get me wrong, I like Shelton Benjamin and hope he runs with this. I just do not think it was time to end Hardy’s reign.
John Morrison and The Miz lose the WWE Tag Team Championships: I am selling this too. I am in the boat of wanting to see these two wrestle in singles programs, however, they are great as a team. I was just hoping to see their reign last a little bit longer.
Jeff Hardy, Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, and MVP are left off of the PPV card: I cannot imagine anyone buying this. All four guys are fresh and over with the crowd. They are exactly what is needed on PPVs. I have been hard on Kennedy lately but he has a lot to offer. They just need to let him shine. The same goes for the other three. Perhaps MVP will move into main events? That would be great.
Michelle McCool becomes the inaugural Diva’s Champion: I’ll buy this for now. I think Natalya is someone that could and should hold that title for a long time, which is exactly what I see happening. Michelle can always say she was the first champion and Natalya can raise the prestige of the belt down the line.
C.M. Punk, Brian Kendrick, and Evan Bourne: I am buying all three of these guys and I lumped them together because of the obvious reason: they are smaller workers. Punk is the World Heavyweight Champion and most people are thrilled about that. Kendrick’s new attitude, complete with a new bodyguard, makes him extremely interesting. In my opinion, Evan Bourne is the best thing about ECW on Tuesday night. When WWE talks about pushing new talent, I hope they take a closer look at what they have like they did with Punk and Kendrick. When bringing in completely new talent, let’s hope they decide on more people like Bourne. The influx of new faces with titles and those in prominent positions has been refreshing to say the least.
