9/12 Dot Net One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling

Welcome to the Dot Net One Shots. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): While I understand criticism of the time Triple H is taking at the top of the card, one cannot deny how great his performances have been. Triple H is doing some great promo work and I still believe this story will play out the right way.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): The Main Event on Monday's Raw was fantastic, and a fun glimpse of what a feud within WWE's younger ranks can be with the proper positioning. I still think we're getting too much of the McMahon Family, but Steph and Hunter have given good performances.

Zack Zimmerman (Twitter - @InVasionZim): It's really unfortunate that Jim Ross' retirement came so abruptly and unceremoniously. The man was (arguably) responsible for the biggest talent boom in modern wrestling, is the greatest play-by-play voice in history, and deserved so much more on his way out. I hold out hope that we'll see him call a big match or two somewhere down the road, but its hard to imagine that the man I associate with WWE as closely as Vince McMahon is no longer a part of the machine.

Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg): No man is more deserving of a rest than Jim Ross. Considering what the man has given to the medium (not to mention the sometimes appalling way he has been treated by it), he has earned his retirement. WWE should be thankful that JR is leaving the broadcasting duties in good hands with JBL and a rejuvenated Cole, with others like Regal waiting in the wings, instead of the sorry state it was in a few years ago during the heel Cole regime.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): Whatever you think about the current Triple H in power story, you have to agree that WWE did a poor job in selling the Night of Champions pay-per-view on Monday. There were good things that happened on Raw, but none of it did anything to inspire people who weren't already ordering to do so. Daniel Bryan's win and attack on Orton looked great, but doubters needed a reason to believe Bryan could win on Sunday, and that visual wasn't enough.

TNA

Will Pruett: The attempt to retroactively explain A.J. Styles' weird worked-shoot promo was odd. Styles is on a path of presumably winning the BFG series and TNA wants fans to get behind him. Styles does not seem to be playing to his strengths here.

Jake Barnett: TNA still feels like it's flailing a bit creatively. Bully Ray is a great character, but they don't have anyone with his level of character development or charisma to go against him at BFG. I hope to be proven wrong.

Chris Shore: The convoluted BFG storyline continues tonight. Don't be surprised if TNA adds another entrant into the final four, but don't be surprised either if they cut a guy from the series. The way their creative has been as of late, nothing would surprise me, no matter how ridiculous or bizarre.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (JR): A great broadcaster presumably left the business yesterday. Jim Ross is easily the best commentator of all time. His voice has enhanced so many great matches including the first Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels 'Mania match, Steve Austin's crowning moments, and some great Jeff Hardy matches in 2009. Ross' voice will definitely be missed.

Jake Barnett (Big Show): While I admit I got a chuckle out of Big Show clowning and doing Yes Chants on Monday, I can't help but feel he'd be better used as an evil enforcer for the new corporation. I know babyfaces are thin and it might not be feasible, but he's so much better as a heel that it would almost be worth it.

Zack Zimmerman (WWE PPV): I loved the Night of Champions PPV blueprint, and at one point, could've seen it overtaking Survivor Series as a 'big four' show. But what's the point of having a Night of Champions when not all champions are defending their titles on that night? This year's show undoubtedly has strong headliners, but it has unfortunately moved away from where I think the money is in that PPV model.

Darren Gutteridge (NXT): As I said above, JR has left at a time when the level of quality commentators is on the rise. On NXT, William Regal and Tony Dawson have formed an effective partnership. I look forward to both making the leap to the main roster, although it's much easier to see where Regal could slot in (Smackdown, or filling in when JBL is away), than where Dawson could go.

Chris Shore (Jim Ross): As a current play-by-play guy, I cannot begin to explain what having a great one does for your product. Combine that with a great eye for talent and you have the making of a solid promotion. That's what JR did for WWE during the Attitude Era, and he deserves all the acclaim he is getting today. If the rumors are true that he was pushed out, Vince McMahon should be ashamed of himself today.
