5/16 Dot Net One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA and indie wrestling

Welcome to the Dot Net One Shots. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): It's been a while since an undercard in WWE has excited me as much as the Extreme Rules undercard does. The Shield in two different championship matches adds a ton of intrigue. Jericho's promo at the end of Raw has me looking forward to his match. Even Swagger vs. Del Rio promises to be good. It's nice to look forward to something other than the main event.

Zack Zimmerman (Twitter - @InVasionZim): How am I supposed to watch Raw while I'm watching the App? Watch the App while I'm Tweeting? Tweet while I'm Touting? And what do I Tout about when I don't know what's happening on Raw because I'm busy playing with my phone? WWE needs to realize social media is a tool that works for them; they have it backwards.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @InnominatusTTV): I enjoyed the closing moments of Raw. The overuse of long winded promos throughout the build to Extreme Rules has been more than a little exhausting, but the brief taste of action in front of a hot crowd was exactly what this feud needed. It's not the most interesting match on the card, but I came out of the segment more excited about the PPV and the match than I did going in.

Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg): Dolph Ziggler must have feared the worst when he got concussed. He had waited a long time to get the title, and had some good matches already in his run, but luckily, this looks like a comma, and not a full stop in his reign. That's good news all around, as his title defenses have the potential to be riveting.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): Kudos to WWE for being smart with Dolph Ziggler. The question that always remains for any medical policy in sports is "Will they do it when it will hurt the team/company?" In this case, WWE sat their World Heavyweight Champion to protect him.

TNA

Will Pruett: I had planned to use this space to discuss last week's Impact, one of TNA's best of the year. Instead, I have to criticize the company for its handling of the Austin Aries and Christy Hemme situation. It's sad to see sexual harassment and physical violence ignored on this level.

Zack Zimmerman: I wonder how long TNA has had this return planned for Abyss. If it was well in advance, then bad on Abyss for showing up in Joseph Park-shape. If it was an audible called because of people losing interest, then I question the logic of inserting Joseph Park-as-Abyss into the main event scene. It might work, it might not, but it's certainly peculiar.

Ryan Kester: Chris Sabin's return to TNA and the X Division story he's involved in is a desperately needed breath of fresh air. TNA's product is growing staler by the week with their returned focus to the Sting/Hogan dynamic above all else, and the latest incarnation of the X Division was underutilized without a story to support it. Now that we have one in place, I am interested to see what TNA does with it.

Chris Shore: The return of Abyss was met with a giant, "Huh?" by me, and a large segment of the audience if the lack of buzz is any indication. The Joseph Park character could annoy me, but even in those moments I found it better than Abyss. I hope the underwhelming lack of response from the audience will let TNA know just how weak the Abyss character is and allow them to finally let it go.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (TV): The season of season finales on television is upon us. It always makes me wonder how wrestling could use a short off-season to build momentum to a season premier. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and from a storyline perspective, a month off when wrestling has burned everyone out, would make me pretty fond.

Zack Zimmerman (Ziggler): A severe concussion on top of multiple previous concussions may change the course of Dolph Ziggler's career. How so? Time will tell. A botched piledriver forced Steve Austin to change his style and shortened his career. Sure, concussions and a broken neck are different, but with increased awareness of CTE we know that the risks are equally as devastating.

Ryan Kester (Misc): Between Jay Brisco's tactless-at-best tweet to Austin Aries' unwanted and vulgar crotch thrust in Christy Hemme's face, there has been far too much reinforcement of stereotypes about the wrestling industry in recent weeks. What's worse is the amount of people I've seen come out of the woodwork trying to dismiss the actions of both men. Enjoying an entertaining act and a great wrestler is one thing, and I can listen to people that want to see reprimanding before firings, but the amount of outright dismissal I've seen is dismaying. We should be better than that by now.

Darren Gutteridge (App Ads): I can't imagine USA (or other TV channels that carry Raw) are overly happy about WWE now having content running on the App during the show. They pay good money to show it, and they will want eyes on screen as much as possible. A cinema would be pissed if The Avengers constantly told people to look at their phones for Iron Mans helmet view, right? What am I saying, that would be sweet.

Chris Shore (Jay Briscoe): Jay's apology for his off-color tweet was a rambling mess, but I also think it was a sincere one. I know guys like Jay who say stupid things that they don't mean to be as heavy as they come across, and they are generally embarrassed when their words blow up in their face. That's how Jay came across to me on the apology. I hope he really learns this time and can have continued success in his career.
