Twilling's WWE Smackdown Hitlist: Undertaker vs. C.M. Punk for the World Hvt. Championship, Batista and Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho and Kane, John Morrison vs. Mike Knox, new Team Smackdown for Bragging Rights
By Rich Twilling Oct 24, 2009 - 01:10 PM

WWE Smackdown Hits

Undertaker vs. C.M. Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship: I like the planning Punk tried to lay out before the match even started. I also think it was cool to have a World Title match on free television, even if it was only two days before a pay-per-view. The match itself, while predictable, was fun while it lasted and was a very nice television main event.

Batista and Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho and Kane: Remember when Jericho and Kane feuded because Jericho spilt coffee on him? Anyway, I wasn’t thrilled about this match being booked because Batista and Mysterio needed to look strong going into their PPV title match, but Jericho and Kane needed to look strong heading into their seven-on-seven match. All of that being said, I enjoyed watching it.

Backstage divas segment: I sincerely think Mae Young will still be alive to wrestle Aurora Levesque on her 100th birthday. That was a nice segment to put over the Smackdown women’s division and I am all for that. They are creating a lot of intrigue behind Michelle McCool as champion and those who are chasing her for the belt.

WWE Smackdown Misses

Opening segment: This thing was a mess. It is one thing when big stars come up and interrupt segments, but when new guys or lesser known guys do it, especially if they have had little to no mic time, just doesn’t work. Although the stipulations were not exactly the same, they did the same thing as the Raw team with the spots being on the line. I do like that Jericho and Kane are getting the respect they deserve.

John Morrison vs. Mike Knox: Now, here are two guys that should be on the Smackdown team. I’m not sure what the problem with Knox is, but damn, push the guy. He is an imposing big man who can work and talk. This guys has superstar written all over him and I know Morrison is in the midst of something big, but did he have to beat him in four minutes? Disappointing to say the least.

New Smackdown team: I think the new Smackdown team is better than the old one, but barely. I could have done without Cryme Tyme and Eric Escobar, but I liked Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre. The new team at least has the Hart Dynasty. What I didn’t like about this is them changing the team two days before the pay-per-view. It screams storyline desperation and it was like the creative team didn’t really have a plan going into this thing.
