TNA Global Impact 2 Hitlist: Big show feel, MCMG vs. No Limit, Team 3D vs. Togi Makabe and Toru Yanu, Kurt Angle, interviews and press conferences, announce team, production values, dated show
By Rich Twilling Oct 9, 2009 - 12:00 PM

TNA Global Impact 2 Hits

Big show feel: The best thing about the relationship between TNA and New Japan is the atmosphere at these shows. The show came across as a huge show in a huge environment. Of course, TNA shows do not draw 40,000 fans, so it is very cool to see TNA and Japanese talent work together in front of a huge crowd.

Motor City Machine Guns vs. No Limit: Tenay and West wish the current TNA X Division was this good. This was about fifteen minutes of constant speed and crisp action. Both teams brought their absolute best and it was a damn good match. It was a shame watching the Guns have a match like this and on the same night, get their ass handed to them in what began as a comedy segment.

Team 3D vs. Togi Makabe and Toru Yanu: If this match would have taken place on Impact, it would have been a solid match. The fact that it took place on this show gave it a more special feel. The stiff Japanese style really turned the hardcore match into a physical spotfest and I enjoyed it.

Eight man tag: I really thought it was more of a “get the big names on the show” match than a “this will be a good match” match. I gave this a ‘hit’ because I love how it made Kurt Angle look like a worldwide star. He really came across as “the guy” in this match and Angle truly is a huge star.

Interviews and press conferences: I like how the show and the matches were presented as sport. They had the interviews putting over how much it meant for the TNA stars to work in the Tokyo Dome. I loved the pre and post match press conferences too. Wrestling is a different animal over there and I love the contrast.

Mike Tenay and Don West: They take (took) a lot of shit, so they deserve to be praised when they earn it. I love when Tenay drops his historical knowledge and a show like this allows him to shine. West did his homework too and they were both at their best here.

TNA Global Impact 2 Misses

Timeline of show airing: The show was taped in January or February. Thus, the show should have aired on television in January or February. It was still a special show, but it seemed less special to hear Don West talk about Sting in the Main Event Mafia or the fact that the Machine Guns had never held tag team gold. ROH PPVs had this same problem. Timelines are important in wrestling.

In house production values: I could not hear the theme music and I could barely hear Jeremy Borash handle the ring introductions. Maybe that was intentional, maybe it wasn’t, but why have music or an announcer if you cannot hear them?
