TNA Impact Hitlist: Sting and Kurt Angle verbally spar, Samoa Joe and Bobby Lashley buildup, main event, Mick Foley and Abyss, new X Division Champion, Lacey Von Erich, Motor City Machine Guns
By Rich Twilling Oct 9, 2009 - 01:20 PM

TNA Impact Hits

Samoa Joe and Bobby Lashley buildup for BFG: This could very well be the wildcard match at the biggest pay-per-view of the year. This could be the Goldberg vs. Lesnar or Michaels vs. Undertaker (please hold off on the emails; I don’t mean it will be that good, but I mean it could be the big name match without any titles on the line). I cannot pick a winner; can you?

Sting and Kurt Angle segment: Did these two ever have their big finale match to conclude their Main Event Mafia feud? Nonetheless, they both brought it during this segment. Angle just comes across as the main event star in TNA and Sting is being presented as a legend. Angle’s line about Styles and Sting kissing each other’s asses was hilarious. I like that they (Sting and Styles) have mutual respect for each other, but they act like they are about to cuddle up to a good movie and glass of wine.

Abyss and Matt Morgan vs. Kurt Angle and Mick Foley: Abyss and Morgan used to be a tag team and I was pleased to see that history recalled by the announcers and the two themselves. The main event was nothing to write home about, but I am loving watching the younger and newer talent defeat the established guys, and having it make sense. This may seem like another main event, but they can build on happenings like these.

TNA Impact Misses

Mick Foley and Abyss segment: Foley vs. Abyss at Bound For Glory is one of the top matches, but did they really need to open the show with these two for two consecutive weeks? With all due respect to Stevie Richards, I think the segment died when he was named the special referee for the match at BFG. Shawn Michaels faced Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 22. Naming Bret Hart as the special referee of that match would have been great. Naming Jim Neidhart as the special referee would have been less than spectacular.

Kevin Nash vs. Hernandez: Dot Net Weekly listeners know Hernandez is on a short list of wrestlers TNA really wants to push (Morgan, Styles, Lashley, Joe). I was excited because I think Hernandez could be an amazing top guy, but it just isn’t clicking in the ring just yet. Of course, he would have a better match with Homicide or Styles than he did Nash. The idea of these two vs. Eric Young in a triple threat match at BFG doesn’t exactly excite me, but I am intrigued by the idea that Nash will put over Hernandez at that show. It could be a great night for the young guys; a true changing of the guard.

Amazing Red becomes the X Division Champion: This heading is misleading. I like Amazing Red. I like that he is the new champion. However, I just don’t like how he got there. The title was completely secondary to the Lashley vs. Joe feud and basically means nothing. Red was pushed for one week and looked very “fortunate” in becoming the new champion. Imagine if Red would have won over several straight weeks and then won a match with Joe with minimal interference from Lashley? That would have elevated everyone.

Lacey Von Erich in the ring: Wow. Lacey is a beautiful girl but damn, somebody needs to work with her, stat. If she was at least decent in the ring, she would be money.

Joe beats up the Machine Guns: The Guns made a big thing about their entrance music. The line about Consequences Creed throwing up was hilarious. So, after all of that, Joe kicked their ass. Thanks for coming guys. If I was booking, the Guns would be top guys and the tag straps would be main event level belts. Imagine LAX vs. the Guns for the TNA Tag Titles at BFG in a straight, fifteen minute match?
