WWE Superstars Hits
Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz: This match accomplished three things when two things would have been just fine. I am happy when we get a long and solid match between two young talents on the verge of becoming main event stars. This match was both of those things, but it also advanced a storyline. It was a very fun and solid way to end the show.
For everything WWE gets criticized for, I will give them a lot of credit for creating interest and intrigue in three non main event championships. The Intercontinental, Tag Team, and United States Championships have all become more prestigious in 2009. All three titles have found their way on multiple pay-per-views, and the current U.S. Title feud reminds me a bit of the old Intercontinental Champions; those who were knocking on the door of reaching the next level.
WWE Superstars Misses
Tyson Kidd vs. Shad: I think it was last week’s Hitlist when I said I was bored with seeing any combination of The Hart Dynasty vs. Cryme Time and Eve, and this match did nothing to change my mind. These matches are just fine, but I was happy with the Harts winning their matches over the past several weeks. Kidd’s loss here may not seem to mean much, but it halts their momentum. Both teams can do good things, but they need to stop being booked to face each other.
Sheamus vs. Tyler Reks: When trying to think back to guys that got pushed at certain times but never really had a connection with the crowd, Billy Gunn (after his New Age Outlaws run), Steve Blackman, and Hardcore Holly all come to mind. Reks is one of those guys right now to me. If you watch him in the ring, he has size, speed, and agility, but he is lacking the “it” factor. Sheamus has the “it” factor and it won’t be long before he is either the ECW Champion, or moved to another roster.
Ask the Divas segment: I really think this would work better as a very short segment on Raw or Smackdown. I don’t know; maybe it is just a bad segment. If you are familiar with my columns and television reports, you know I enjoy segments that show us the personalities of the workers, but I’m just not a fan of these.
