TNA Impact Hitlist: A.J. Styles vs. Matt Morgan, Morgan turns down the Mafia, Foley and Nash sign their contract, four way women's match, Bobby Lashley interview, World Elite
Aug 14, 2009 - 01:44 PM |
TNA Impact Hits
A.J. Styles vs. Matt Morgan in the finals of their best of three series: Six months ago, Morgan would have probably have to have been carried to a good match by Styles, but he has improved a lot. Morgan is that rare talent that is a big guy who can work a fast paced style when he wants to. These two men worked extremely well together and the match was the best of the three.
Morgan apparently turns down Kurt Angle: I know. I know. This has “Russo swerve” written all over it with Morgan screwing over Sting at the pay-per-view and Angle retaining the title. However, maybe they will go in another direction here and have Morgan side with the babyfaces. They could use someone. I enjoyed the segment so I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a swerve.
Mick Foley and Kevin Nash contract signing: Segments like these are oftentimes predictable and silly, but this worked pretty well. Foley was passionate about his life and career as a wrestler. Nash was classic heel Nash who only cares about money. Foley putting himself through the table was odd, but it made sense. It was funny that they both looked like they were having Jimmy Fallon on SNL moments where they couldn’t stop smiling.
Tara vs. ODB vs. Awesome Kong vs. Angelina Love: This was a very good match with all four women working their asses off and actually, this was one of the best women’s matches I have seen in TNA in a very long time. The eventual Tara vs. Kong feud should be awesome and ODB is still over with the Orlando crowd. Love is a heat magnet.
TNA Impact Misses
Bobby Lashley sit-down interview with Mike Tenay: Lashley has never been a good or even average promo guy. The problem I had with the interview was that Lashley unintentionally put down professional wrestling by saying he needed more in his life besides just wrestling. I realize he is a unique star doing both wrestling and MMA, but TNA should not act like they are beneath Lashley and that is how he is being presented.
Hernandez vs. Doug Williams: I didn’t like the booking of this bout because Hernandez is primed for a big main event push and Williams is part of a new faction. The match itself was sloppy in spots and Hernandez winning relatively easily did not do a lot of favors for the World Elite faction.
Christy Hemme vs. Sojo Bolt: Hemme received a nice reaction before and during the match, but it was a clunker. Sojo scarily landed on her head during a botched backdrop. Hemme just needs to tighten up her work because she could be an asset as a babyface knockout.
Eric Young and Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Jesse Neal and Rhino: With all due respect to Rhino, I don’t think anyone cares about this storyline he is in with Neal. The World Elite faction looked very weak on this show. Young and Bashir won this match with a rollup after an uneventful few minutes. That is no way to build a new faction.
Scott Steiner vs. Brother Ray: The match was designed to build to the PPV tag title match, but it was slow and plodding. I am looking forward to the tag title match though. Steiner has been looking better in the ring so I am hoping he brings it on Sunday.
