WWE Smackdown Hitlist: Jeff Hardy and C.M. Punk, Vince McMahon returns, John Morrison vs. Tyson Kidd, Dolph Ziggler, Matt Hardy, JTG beats Chris Jericho, Great Khali, Slam Master J

WWE Smackdown Hits

Jeff Hardy vs. C.M. Punk: This match was not as good as their pay-per-view matches (and it shouldn’t have been), but it was still a very fun television main event in what has been an amazing feud. Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio is still the feud of the year (so far), but this one is rapidly closing in. Punk’s post match attack on Hardy was awesome television for a second straight week.

Vince McMahon returns: Less is more. Vince McMahon can make sporadic appearances and they will mean more. Last night’s appearance on the show worked well because it was a surprise. I do not want to see Vince on any show every week, but seeing him from time to time works for me. It also gave Smackdown an “A show” rub.

John Morrison vs. Tyson Kidd: When you see this match on paper, you have certain expectations and this match went in a different direction. Nonetheless, I found the match to be very entertaining. I am guessing as well I was not the only one picturing this as a main event feud in a year from now (and beyond).

Dolph Ziggler wins a four-way to earn an IC Title shot at SummerSlam: The right guy won the match and the match itself was a fun eight minutes of action with four guys. The Intercontinental Championship means more now than it has in years. I hope, if Ziggler gets the title, this love for the title will continue.

Matt Hardy returns: WWE can do a lot of things with Matt here. They can tease a feud with Jeff or they can tease a reconciliation. It will be interesting to see what they do and it was nice to see Matt back on television last night.

JTG defeats Chris Jericho: Jericho is doing everything he can to get Big Show and Cryme Tyme over for SummerSlam. Trust me, if it doesn’t happen now, it never will. I hope John Cena was taking notes here, because Jericho losing to JTG elevated JTG, but did nothing to hurt Jericho. A main event guy can lose matches and still be a main event guy.

Great Khali squashes Ricky Ortiz: Works for me; I just have been behind Ortiz. Perhaps if he came in as a heel, it would have worked for him, but that lame babyface character he played did not do him any favors.

Overall show: Another quality effort from the true number one show in WWE. I know I pretty much say it on every episode of Dot Net Weekly, but I think WWE would do in the mid fours if this show aired, as is, on Monday nights. It’s a shame not many people are seeing this show.

WWE Smackdown Misses

Slam Master J: Please. There are plenty of “make it stop” guys and segments in WWE right now and Jesse is one of them. It is too bad because Jesse is a good talker who can go a bit in the ring, but this character sucks.
