WWE Night of Champions preview and predictions: Will Jeff Hardy finally defeat C.M. Punk? Who will reign supreme as the top dog on Raw? Who will Chris Jericho choose to be his tag team partner and will they retain the belts?
By Rich Twilling Jul 26, 2009 - 09:51 AM

The following predictions are my own are being made without any inside knowledge of the match finishes. I am guessing just like you are.

Randy Orton vs. Triple H vs. John Cena in a triple threat match for the WWE Championship: WWE has tried to hype this as a huge main event, but they really haven't done so. I will predict that all three men will do whatever they can to steal the show and will have ample time to do so. I think it will be a very good match and since I think we are going to see Hunter vs. Cena at SummerSlam, Orton retains here and moves on to a feud with Shawn Michaels.

C.M. Punk vs. Jeff Hardy for the World Heavyweight Championship: This is a tough one to pick because of Hardy's contract situation. Punk's character right now is that of someone who wins in any way he can. If he beats Hardy, it probably will not be clean and thus, another rematch could be explained as necessary. Nonetheless, Punk wins and Hardy gets a blowoff match at SummerSlam, perhaps a loser leaves town match. Remember, John Morrison wants the winner, so he'll be watching this one closely.

Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship: Ziggler is red hot right now and this is a tough one to pick. I could see them putting the title on Ziggler and giving Rey a rematch at SummerSlam. I could also see Rey winning to open up Ziggler as a possibility of being Chris Jericho's tag team partner. I'm probably over thinking it and I'll go with Ziggler to win the match and title.

Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian for the ECW Championship: This match will serve as a precursor for the rest of the show. Dreamer will frustrate and then defeat Christian, either by pinfall or disqualification. Christian will either turn heel during the match or after the match and leave his friend Dreamer lying. He then will go onto bigger and better things later in the evening.

Chris Jericho and a mystery partner vs. Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes for the Unified Tag Team Championships: This match carries more intrigue with it than any other on the card and that is due to Jericho's continued excellence and the mystery of who his partner will be. Like I predicted earlier in the week, I think Christian will end up being Jericho's partner and the champions will retain.

Kofi Kingston vs. Big Show vs. MVP vs. The Miz vs. Jack Swagger vs. Carlito in a six pack challenge for the United States Championship: Normally, in these secondary championship matches with multiple participants, the champion retains. However, I think Swagger will win the match and the United States Title. He can then feud with Kofi or MVP.

Michelle McCool vs. Melina for the Women's Championship: These two had a decent match at The Bash and I expect another one here. I don't expect Melina to win the title back just yet, so McCool retains here and probably holds the title until next year.

Maryse vs. Mickie James for the Diva's Championship: If Mickie wins the title, she will join Michelle McCool as the only other woman to hold both women's titles. Based on that, I am wanting to pick Maryse to retain here so Mickie chases the title a little while longer. However, I don't anticipate this title being defended at SummerSlam, so I'll say Mickie wins the title here.

Jason Powell will be covering the show as it airs on pay-per-view, so feel free to watch along with him or follow his report as the show progresses.
