WWE Smackdown Hits

Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho: It is a testament to these two stars that I can expect a great match out of them, on television no less, and have my expectations exceeded. That is difficult to do. Normally, I would complain a bit that Jericho did the job, but if the match ended in a DQ or no contest, that would upset me too. Hardy is challenging for the title, so a win here against a red hot Jericho was the right thing. When WWE decides to put Jericho back in the main event, he'll be more than ready. This was an absolutely fantastic television match.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Finlay: The match itself was nothing to write home about, but remember, there is a pay-per-view on Sunday and Ziggler is in a high profile match. I would have preferred a clean finish but a win is a win and Ziggler looked good in victory. Rey Mysterio vs. Ziggler at the pay-per-view is going to be a sleeper match.

Rey Mysterio vs. C.M. Punk: Here was a match where we knew we were not going to get a clean finish. However, I didn't enjoy the finish because it made Punk look weak. Remember the last time Punk was World Champion? He was booked as a lame duck and weak champion. This time around, he is being booked the same way, but nobody seems to notice (or care) because Punk has done a fantastic job with his heel turn. Despite all of that, it was a fun television main event.

Punk and Hardy promo: Punk is playing this perfectly and Hardy is doing a nice job pulling his weight along for the ride. It is almost sad that what Punk is saying is causing him to get booed. However, it is the way he is saying it. Hulk Hogan could have talked about saying prayers and taking vitamins in a cocky manner and that would have made him a heel too. Punk is not saying anything he didn't say as a face, which means he turned heel without changing at all. That takes talent.

WWE Smackdown Misses

Great Khali vs. Mike Knox: Not much to say here besides the obvious. Knox should never be an afterthought and especially in a match with Khali. Here is one possible saving grace: Jericho told Khali he was the finalist to be his partner and Khali shot him down. Perhaps Knox will get the nod. Of course, it could be Kane too. It could be a lot of people and I've written about it all week. I'm still going with Christian, but it could be Dot Net favorite Chris Masters.

Eve Torres vs. Natalya: I'll go as far to say Natalya, in a company with Mickie James and Beth Phoenix, was the best worker in the company the day she debuted. I understand The Hart Dynasty is feuding with Cryme Tyme and Eve. I get that they have to feud with somebody, but damn, even at this early stage in their careers, the Harts are being misused. Natalya jobbing to Eve is laughable, but unfortunately, it happened.

R-Truth vs. Charlie Haas: After Shelton Benjamin was shipped to ECW (again), I thought maybe it was the end of the road for Charlie, who deserves way better than this. I like Truth as a mid-card guy that gets over with the target demographic. I don't like Haas being treated like a jobber when he has some charisma and is obviously a very good in ring worker.

Melina and Michelle McCool interaction: Lack of logic is why I did not like this segment. The pay-per-view is called "Night of Champions" and "every title is being defended." So, why is McCool, the Women's Champion, being informed of her match, by her challenger no less, two days before the show? If I was a champion, you could bet your ass I would know who I was wrestling at a pay-per-view I knew I was defending the title at.
