WWE Smackdown Hits
Edge and Chris Jericho interaction: Well, if the plan was to turn Edge babyface, just let him play opposite Chris Jericho and mission accomplished. I enjoyed seeing Edge on television and I love that they planted seeds for a possible feud down the road. I know I am not the only one salivating over a potential match between these two at WrestleMania 26.
John Morrison vs. C.M. Punk: Morrison pretty much owns Punk and has ever since they worked extensively together in ECW. Punk is the cocky and arrogant champion and Morrison is a guy he has trouble beating. Could anyone else see this match being the World Heavyweight Championship match at SummerSlam? Me too.
Punk and Jeff Hardy opening segment: Punk making the point that Hardy not failing a drug test in a year being no cause for celebration was hilarious. If you think about it, Punk should be the guy the kids love and not Hardy. If Hardy is taking time off, Punk will obviously hold onto the title, but the feud and the buildup to this final match has been well done.
Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy vs. Dolph Ziggler and Chris Jericho: First of all, this was (as expected) a very good television tag team main event. Punk being involved did not bother me because it was pretty obvious he would be. On top of that, Ziggler is ready. Damn is he ready. He took a stupid gimmick introducing himself to everyone, over and over again, and primed himself for an upper mid-card run (for now, because he could go higher than that).
Hart Dynasty vs. Cryme Tyme and Eve: The Harts won the match, so I am really happy with that. On top of that, Natalya wrestled and I could watch her work every week. Finally, this feud, although it seems below the Harts, has been done well. I have enjoyed it and I hope both teams are elevated as a result.
Kane vs. R-Truth: Kane won again. That was good enough for me. Reestablishing him as a monster heel would bolster the Smackdown show, even though they are pretty stacked already.
Overall show: There was a lot of stuff to sink your teeth into on this show. They are building new stars, allowing veteran stars to shine as the top star(s), and they are foreshadowing a WrestleMania quality match. Tonight's show had very little to complain about.
WWE Smackdown Misses
Ricky Ortiz: It is sad that a guy with such a good (or at least unique) look sucks so bad. Sometimes it is as simple as saying whether or not a guy has "it," and it seems right now Ricky does not.
Jesse: Well, this character sucks too. Enough said.
Pretty Ricky: I could do without seeing Pretty Ricky, especially when R-Truth has a match on the show. Again, WWE is over-thinking things here and instead of letting Truth work, they decided to throw a gimmick on him. Hopefully they take it back and throw it away soon.
