TNA Impact Hitlist: Kurt Angle vs. Sting, Homicide cashes in, Sarita vs. Alissa Flash, Kurt Angle, elimination six man tag, Don West, Jeff Jarrett
By Rich Twilling Jul 17, 2009 - 10:45 AM

TNA Impact Hitlist

Sting vs. Kurt Angle in a six sides of steel match: I am probably the first person to call out TNA for throwing out gimmick matches too often and as a result, rendering them unimportant. However, I thought this was a nice way to build to the Victory Road pay-per-view. First of all, it was a fun match. Secondly, it was a nice final build to the pay-per-view, and finally, it foreshadowed the upcoming program between Sting and Kurt Angle.

Kurt Angle's mic work: I thought Angle was great in the ring during the opening segment and backstage during his interview with JB. Angle is a perfect combination right now of the intense screamer and calm cat.

Sarita vs. Alissa Flash: Sarita's promo sucked, but her in ring debut was very memorable. She was impressive with her innovative offense that is rarely seen in the TNA women's division. This might sound weird, but she reminded me a bit of a female Rey Mysterio. Alissa Flash also looked impressive in her "debut." I say let her pull double duty because I want to see more of both of these women in the ring.

Elimination six man tag team match: I enjoyed the format of the match and there were a couple of things I hated about it (read below), but I really thought Robert Roode stood out in a positive way. I'm not sure if TNA was trying to or not, but they really made Beer Money a babyface team last night when they have been walking the line on that for several weeks.

Don West's Forum involving Jenna Morasca, Sharmell, and others: Okay, nobody cares about the match, but at least they promoted it in a funny segment. West can be a bit much at times during the broadcast, but I'll take too much of this West (where he is funny some of the time at least) than too much of the babyface West.

Homicide wins the X-Division Title: The briefcase thing is "so WWE," but I like how Homicide cashed in. I don't like how it takes forever for those with these briefcases to cash them in, but it was a pretty cool moment. Homicide's promo killed it a bit, but I am looking forward to seeing him with the belt. Homicide vs. Suicide? Insert your "Genocide" jokes here and then bring in Sabu.

Jeff Jarrett on commentary: He was informative when talking about the match in the ring and it was hilarious every time he told West to shut up.

TNA Impact Misses

A.J. Styles gets pinned in two minutes: Unless Styles was hurt or something, this served absolutely no purpose. Seriously, he was in control offensively and Nash hit the powerbomb out of nowhere and pinned Styles. A.J. even looked like he sort of kicked out, so not only did it suck, it looked bad too. I would have liked to have seen James Storm last longer too.

Mike Tenay: I know he was probably instructed to talk to Jeff Jarrett about Victory Road, but why do we care about Jarrett's PPV thoughts when there is a cage match between Sting and Angle in the ring? Also, when Taz's music played, Tenay said, "I know what all of this means," yet he did not find it necessary to actually tell anyone.

Abyss puts tacks in himself: Yes, you read that correctly. I guess it is a nice change of pace that he did it to himself and someone else did not put him through tacks. However, we've seen the tacks a million times with Abyss, which is too bad because it would have otherwise been a pretty cool promo and visual.

Importance of the X-Division and Women's Titles: Angle and Jarrett said repeatedly throughout the night that the Mafia had the opportunity to win "every" title at Victory Road. One time and I could have let it slide, but multiple times and one begins to notice which titles are excluded from their claims. It might be a little thing, but why didn't they mention which titles they could win instead of saying "all of them." It renders these titles unimportant to them and as a result, the fans.
