WWE "ECW on SciFi" Hitlist: Christian vs. David Hart Smith, Evan Bourne vs. Mark Henry, Finlay, Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger, overall show
Jun 17, 2009 - 09:41 AM

WWE "ECW on SciFi" Hits

Christian vs. David Hart Smith: I was surprised to see this match given so much time after Hart's outing with Finlay sometime back. However, these two worked very well together and it was a fun match to watch. I was a little nervous actually because of Smith's clunker with Finlay, but he brought it here. Christian was great and Smith scored the surprising win, which was nice given the way the Harts were treated on Raw.

Evan Bourne vs. Mark Henry: I'm sure this was not a program many people would have wanted to see a few months back, but I think it has been fantastic. Oddly enough, despite their size difference, these two have a nice chemistry in the ring together. Henry finally earned a win, but Bourne has been successful in this program too, so both men are elevated as a result. I would not mind seeing more of these two or having them move on.

Finlay: Oddly enough, Finlay may not be the veteran to help the young guys learn in the ring (see his matches with Jack Swagger and David Hart Smith), but maybe even he was thrown out of whack by Hornswoggle. I love the fact that nobody, face or heel, was safe tonight from Finlay's attacks. I remember sometime back when he laid out babyface tag team Cryme Tyme and everyone laughed about it because Horny was around. This went over well because Finlay didn't turn heel, he just wants to be the top guy, which is what everyone should want.

Overall show: Once again, there was a lot to enjoy about this show. I was not a blow away show like past efforts, but it was beyond solid. This show has done a nice job building the midcard and tonight, in my opinion, they elevated four midcard talents. Kudos.

WWE "ECW on SciFi" Misses

Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Swagger: This was not the most enjoyable match and it dragged a bit. I was not thrilled with Swagger beating Dreamer clean. If he needed to "earn" an ECW Championship match, he could have done so in another way. The ECW Title was treated badly on Raw and on the ECW show, the champion lost clean. This is not exactly a great start to Dreamer's title reign. I guess it is better than his first ECW Championship reign.
