WWE Smackdown Hits

Opening segment with C.M. Punk, Jeff Hardy, and Edge: First of all, I liked that they opened the show with Punk, the new champion. Secondly, I like that Punk offered no apologies for his actions, so at this point, anyone can speculate as they please on whether he is a face or heel. Finally, both Hardy and Edge deserve rematches, so what they said made sense. Solid opening segment coming out of the pay-per-view.

Edge vs. Jeff Hardy: Another very nice main event between the two that felt different because something new (not the title) was up for grabs. The finish was fine because it helped set up the logical three way on Monday and at the same time made Punk look really strong, which is what should be done with a new World Champion.

C.M. Punk vs. Chris Jericho: I enjoyed the fact that Jericho told Teddy Long earlier in the show that he belonged in the World Championship picture (because he does). These two put forth a great match, which is to be expected from them. If Punk does not turn heel, I would love to see a feud between these two.

The top four: This Monday on Raw, John Cena, Triple H, Big Show, and Randy Orton will face in a four way match for the WWE Championship. The top four guys on Smackdown are Edge, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho, and C.M. Punk. Raw may have the "bigger" names (and can be argued), but I don't know anyone who thinks the Monday night four are better.

Overall show: The first hour was average at best, but the second hour was strong enough to turn the entire show into a hit. Hopefully viewers unhappy with the first hour stuck around to watch the great second hour.

WWE Smackdown Misses

R-Truth and John Morrison vs. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas: The match itself wasn't bad, but I think Morrison is past this at this point. Beyond that, I did not like the usage of Benjamin and Haas. Since they have been teaming again, they have not won on television. Also, are they a team again or not? If so, have them win a freaking match already.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Great Khali: I like that Ziggler finally scored a victory, albeit a tainted one, over Khali. I like Ziggler. He is like Zack Ryder on ECW. Some people are going to dig the character and some people are not. I think he could be a solid heel on the show and I hope he moves on to more prestigious programs.

Melina and Eve vs. Michelle McCool and Layla: This was simply just not an entertaining bout. On top of that, Melina vs. Michelle McCool looks to be our singles' feud over the women's championship. Can't Melina turn heel and feud with Gail Kim? Can't we have some positive and interesting direction in this division?
