WWE "ECW on SciFi" Hits
Jack Swagger, The Miz, and John Morrison vs. CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, and Ricky Ortiz: Given the workers in this match, you would expect it to be good and it was. Swagger was the star in this match. It took awhile for him to be tagged in and he won the match clean at the end. It was odd seeing Miz and Morrison as background players, but Swagger definitely plays the part of the star very well.
Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero: I was not happy about this situation (read below), but the actual match was strong. Hardy and Chavo are both very good workers and after the short promo to start the show, this was a great way to jumpstart it.
Mark Henry as Santa Claus and Tony Atlas as Rudolph: How hilarious was Henry and even more so, how ridiculously funny did Atlas look in the reindeer getup? His nose was blinking! After it was all said and done, Henry delivered a very good promo. Unfortunately, it was directed at a leprechaun and not Matt Hardy, but oh well.
Overall show: Two out of the three matches were around the ten minute mark and there was enough filler to make the show a mild hit.
WWE "ECW on SciFi" Misses:
Opening segment: Matt Hardy will never be a good promo guy. Jeff Hardy is not a good promo guy either, but he overcame that by being different in other areas. Matt is boring on the stick and Chavo is just as bad, so to start the show with the two of them talking in the middle of the ring was not the best way to do so. Also, throwing Chavo in there to work a good match is one thing, but hopefully he stays away from the title picture.
Todd Grisham: He was very good when he debuted as the ECW announcer, but it seems like he has Michael Cole in his headsets because his lines are cliché and unfunny. He needs to go back to simply calling the show and doing what he does best.
Finlay vs. Gavin Spears: It was nice to see Finlay win the match without using the shillegleh, but Finlay's act is so tired at this point. I mentioned in my coverage of the show that a Matt Hardy heel turn could be huge, but Finlay attacking Hornswoggle would definitely be huge. Unfortunately, I think this is the Finlay we are going to see from now on.
Ricky Ortiz: Ortiz tries, which I respect, but he is not connecting with the crowd and his offense is slow and plodding. I am not sure what they can do with him, but somebody needs to come up with something quickly.
