Today's Rundown: UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar, Survivor Series hype, Jeff Hardy's new attitude, Vladimir Kozlov, Chris Jericho vs. John Cena, John Cena videos, Christian Cage
UFC 91: I am buying the overall show and thought it was very entertaining. While the UFC did a subpar job of hyping and promoting the event since it was announced, they hit a homerun on game day. I will have more to say in my UFC blog later today.
Survivor Series hype: I am selling WWE's hype toward one of their big four pay-per-view events. In fact, the entire event seems rather lackluster. The entire night seems to be centered around the return of John Cena while everyone else takes a back seat. Other main eventers, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, and Batista are involved in thrown together elimination matches. The show could be very good, but it just does not scream, "buy me" at this point.
Jeff Hardy: I am buying. Hardy, who has been one of the most entertaining and beloved characters in WWE throughout his career, has never been more interesting in my opinion. A few short weeks ago, Hardy was on his way out of the main event picture and seemed to be losing some steam with the audience. However now, he is the most entertaining person on Friday night and seems to be firmly entrenched in the main event scene for awhile.
Vladimir Kozlov: I am selling. We are still unsure if Hardy's ascendance back to the main event has anything to do with the backtracking of Kozlov, but I'll take it. Don't get me wrong, I like Kozlov, but I just don't buy him (no pun intended) as a main eventer, at least not now. The big concern with Kozlov when he was squashing everyone was his ability to work a main event program. I am very curious to see how he performs at the Survivor Series.
Chris Jericho vs. John Cena at Survivor Series: While I am not thrilled with the entire show being built around Cena (see the next topic), I am buying this match. I am looking forward to it and while I expect to see Cena leave Boston with the World Heavyweight Championship, I hope Jericho holds onto the gold. Beyond that, Jericho pulled some very good matches out of Cena on his way out of WWE three years ago, even better than the Cena vs. Kurt Angle one on one matches, so I am expecting this to be very good.
John Cena videos: I am buying the videos, but I am selling how often they show them and how many there are. They could have done two of them and been done. They could have shown them on Raw and maybe during one Raw Rebound on Smackdown. However, to have multiple videos and to show them on all three shows is overkill. Cena has been shoved down the throat of the fans and as a result, has been booed. I feel these videos will cause the same reaction to Cena.
Christian Cage returning to WWE: I am buying his return if he chooses to make the jump back to WWE. I know Cage was not happy with his spot on the card the last time he was in WWE, but he is not main eventing in TNA either. Sure, he was a TNA World Heavyweight Champion on two occasions, but I do not see him winning one of the top WWE belts. However, I do see him involved with Edge and in many main events. Cage will bring a lot to WWE and while I hope he wins a top title, at least he will be in a top program.
