Today's Rundown: Chris Jericho vs. Batista, John Cena videos, Henry chasing Hardy, MVP's streak, Khali, Santino Marella, Shelton Benjamin vs. R-Truth, Cyber Sunday, World Series
Chris Jericho vs. Batista at No Mercy: I am buying this because Chris Jericho as the World Heavyweight Champion sparks new interest in any top feud. Batista has been there many, many times before, but this is a fresh championship feud. I am hoping Jericho holds onto the title until Wrestlemania but is made to look like gold on the way there.
John Cena video packages: I am overwhelmingly buying these because they made Cena look like a legit tough guy, which we all know he is. Having other wrestlers break character to put him over in an honest way was a nice touch too. Cena may never be over with the male demographic as WWE wants him to be, but videos like this have to be a step in that direction.
Mark Henry chasing Matt Hardy: I am buying this for now because I like the fact that WWE is going in another direction here. Most title programs have the babyface chasing the heel. Heels rarely chase the babyface champion for an extended period of time. Henry looked rejuvenated during this past week of television and I hope this feud continues to deliver.
MVP the jobber: I am selling this of course. I am amazed and impressed with MVP's ability to stay over despite not being able to win a match. It looks like this is going to become his gimmick. He is one win away from a performance bonus (geez) and it looks like he is not going to earn said win for a long time. They better use this opportunity to elevate a couple of people with big wins. They also better have something in mind once MVP starts a winning streak.
The Great Khali and Ranjin Singh: You know I am buying this. Khali was a bad monster heel because he sucked in the ring. Sure, he was intimidating looking, but he never backed it up. However, as a comedic babyface, he and Singh can be and have been very entertaining. I do not want him all over my TV now, but these two in small doses could make for some very good television.
Santino Marella vs. one of three former IC champions: Well, I guess I am buying. While it would be cool to see any of the three former champions vs. Santino, I feel they are rushing this a bit. If my math is correct, Santino will still be chasing The Honky Tonk Man at this time next year. Why not bring in Honky at that time? I thought it would be cool to have The Ultimate Warrior end the streak but hell would probably freeze over first.
Shelton Benjamin vs. R-Truth: I wish they would have built up to their first match a little better, but I am buying the feud. The interaction between these two has been very entertaining. Truth's act is hugely over and Benjamin is playing off of that popularity with near perfection. Now what this feud needs is both men expressing what the United States Championship means to them. It would be a wasted opportunity not to put over the importance of the title.
New Cyber Sunday voting policy: I am selling this. Sure, WWE is going to make a lot of money here but I think they are going to alienate more fans than anything. They are going to lose a lot of votes because people are not going to spend .99 a pop to vote for a match stipulation. I feel bad for the clueless parents who will undoubtedly be saddled with a huge phone bill because of their oblivious child voting countless times. By the way, shouldn't the new voting procedure warrant a new name of the PPV?
The Red Sox vs. Phillies in the World Series: I would buy and am hoping for it. The Rays are a great story but they are playing against my Sox. I prefer the Phillies to the Dodgers although either team representing the National League would be cool with me.
