Today's Rundown: Randy Orton, C.M. Punk, JBL, Mark Henry, Tony Atlas, Kane, McBeams
Randy Orton: I am buying his appearance and promo in his hometown of St. Louis. That was by far the most entertaining promo he has ever given and the fact that he was correct is what made it so great. The only issue I took with it, and I mentioned this in my Raw report, is his bashing of C.M. Punk. He could have heeled Punk, but to go down the same tired "unworthy champion" path was unnecessary. I do love how he remained heel while running down the heel champions. The "tweener" promo was very reminiscent of the Attitude Era.
C.M. Punk: I am buying his response to Orton. He has defended himself against hit critics in the past, but he did so this week with a lot more fire and passion than usual. All of a sudden, we have the makings of a Punk vs. Orton feud and I love it. They are already laying the groundwork and once Orton returns, there will be a slowly simmering feud in place for them.
JBL: I am selling him and his horribly tired act. He continues to give the same "Cinderella" speech to Punk running down his "pathetic" title reign. I wish someone would point out to JBL that he had two one-on-one title matches with Punk. On top of that, Punk should mention that JBL never once won a title defense cleanly during his run.
Mark Henry: I am buying him as he continues to be one of the most, if not the most, entertaining and imposing figure in WWE right now. The fans are taking notice too; he gets a reaction worthy of a world champion every time his music hits and every time he does something impressive in the ring, which is often.
Tony Atlas: He is not a good promo guy, but he is entertaining and adds a lot to Henry's act. As a result, I am buying him and I especially love his cut off dress shirt and tie look. I am looking to work that into my repertoire.
Josh Matthews at the conventions: I am buying this because Matthews is very good on the mic. He has an aura of professionalism and relaxation about him. It is a shame WWE does not do more with him. I could have done without Candice Michelle "bimboing" her way through her promo and Mickie James basically reading a public service announcement, but overall, I like WWE's involvement in the voting process.
Kane: I am buying and I am surprised about it. Talk about making chicken salad out of chicken shit. Kane, complete with his new music and attitude, has managed to make himself interesting again. I guess he is a heel but the fans still love him. I always disliked when a wrestler would be a heel or face simply based on who they were feuding with instead of whether or not they changed their personality. Kane is being himself and some fans are cheering for him and some are booing. That is how it should be.
Steely McBeams: I am buying my fantasy team this year as we are primed to make a championship run. I am not predicting anything, but we definitely have the pieces in place to win this thing.
