Today's Rundown: WWE Championship Scramble, The Undertaker's voice, Smackdown final segment, Edge in WWE hell, Great Khali, ECW wrestlers on Smackdown, Diva's Championship
WWE Championship Scramble: While I was all over the Raw version of this match, I am buying the Smackdown version. MVP, The Brian Kendrick, Jeff Hardy, and Shelton Benjamin are four guys that have never been WWE Champion before. I expect MVP and Hardy to "win" the championship at the PPV and one of them to leave as the champion. I like that new guys are getting a chance vs. the same old guys on Raw wrestling for the World Heavyweight Championship.
The Undertaker's voice: I am selling. What the hell was that? It sounded like someone doing an over the top Undertaker impression.
Final segment on Smackdown: For the fourth consecutive week, Smackdown ended with a segment rather than a match and I am selling it this week. The key missing ingredient was Edge. Edge single handedly carried the Hell in a Cell hype. He was fantastic for two weeks and pretty good last week. Last night's segment was flat and uneventful.
Edge in WWE hell: I am selling this and they need to get him out of there. Edge is not the kind of guy who needs time off for the fans to stay interested in him. He is not Vince McMahon. I am guessing he will come back and stay out of the title picture until Wrestlemania. A long feud with Jeff Hardy would be fun.
The Great Khali not advancing to the Championship Scramble: I am selling this because Khali is the best big man in WWE. Just kidding; he sucks. They made the correct decision by having Hardy go over him. They did not need Khali clogging up the ring for the good workers, which is everyone in the match.
ECW wrestlers on Smackdown: I could have missed this but unless they explained a good reason for having Finlay, Hornswoggle, and Mike Knox on the show, I am selling. I know they have taken liberties with the brand split but at the same time, it would be nice to at least pretend it means something. That being said, I loved the Finlay vs. Shelton Benjamin match. That was a fantastic bout.
WWE Diva's Championship: I like the idea of having it but I am selling how it is being portrayed. Victoria and Natalya are by far the best workers on the brand and on top of that, they are damn good heels. It is as age old as wrestling itself, but a title and wrestlers get over when a babyface is chasing the heel champion. If they were doing more with Michelle McCool as the champion, I would be fine with her holding the belt. However, at this point and because of how Michelle is being booked, it would have made more sense to put the title on Victoria or Natalya and have Michelle chase. Right now, Maria is the most important babyface diva on Smackdown which should not be the case given who the champion is.
