Buy or Sell: Buying Mike Adamle as Raw General Manager, plus Cena vs. Batista, challengers to C.M. Punk, Final Highlight Reel
By Rich Twilling Jul 29, 2008 - 01:25 PM |
|
Today’s Rundown: Mike Adamle, John Cena vs. Batista at Summerslam, Punk’s title defense, Highlight Reel, Jamie Noble, William Regal, Michael Cole, Beth and Santino, Priceless’ theme music
Mike Adamle as the new Raw General Manager: I am buying this. I thought I would be in the minority but a lot of people seem to like the idea. It is funny how someone can suck so bad and still be talked about as much as Adamle is. However, I can see him playing a character similar to a heel Maria. He does and says stupid things, but he is calculating and strategic about his revenge tactics. As long as he is not a traditional heel G.M. like Vickie Guerrero or William Regal, I will probably continue to like this move.
John Cena vs. Batista at Summerslam: I am selling. One of the biggest problems with monthly pay-per-views and weekly big television shows is that there are very few new marquee matches for Wrestlemania. Well, Cena vs. Batista was the exception and a slow build to Wrestlemania for these two would have been huge. To rush their first match on a show where it will be soon forgotten is a missed opportunity.
Potential World Heavyweight Championship match at Summerslam: If C.M. Punk defends the title against Kane and JBL, I would sell it big time. That would be a throwaway title match on a secondary PPV, but this is Summerslam. The WWE title match is already a huge letdown and this would make two.
The final Highlight Reel: I am buying this because Jericho was fantastic in explaining why it was the final show. Yes, someday he will turn face again and bring the show back, but I loved that he made last night the final Highlight Reel, for now. On top of that, he was amazing again. I hope he gets Punk once he is done with Shawn Michaels.
Jamie Noble: I am buying him. Maybe they have a plan with his storyline or maybe they are just giving him something consistent to do, but nevertheless, he is entertaining. I mentioned in another column that the low and middle card wrestlers need to have something going on and Noble is a great example of someone who is busy without being in a title program. That being said, maybe he is in a title program after all.
William Regal returns to the ring: I am buying and it is great to see Regal back. Most people assumed he would be the General Manager. He may never get back to where he was headed, but hopefully he will continue to work very good matches. By the way, he sure left his mark on Punk last night. That was nasty.
Michael Cole: I am selling whatever they seem to be doing with him. I prefer Jim Ross on Smackdown so I hope they are not switching places. If he stays on Raw, I could see Adamle screwing with him all of the time and no one needs to see Adamle vs. Cole clogging up precious airtime on Raw. If he just continues to announce, hopefully he picks up his performance. He sometimes mails it in worse than Tony Schiavone did in the dying days of WCW.
Santino Marella and Beth Phoenix: Week two of this partnership and I continue to buy. They can only do the reluctant attraction thing for so long so I hope they progress this next week.
Ted Dibiase and Cody Rhodes’ theme music: I am buying their music. I am not sure why exactly, but I really like it. It is catchy. I also like the fact that “Priceless” seems to be their team name. Now all we need to get Rhodes some matching tights and they will be good to go.
On a closing note, I would like to wish my cousin Keri Twilling a happy birthday. She will be 17 on Wednesday.
