12/21 Wednesday One Shots: The Dot Net staff give their quick thoughts from the previous week in WWE, TNA, MMA, and indy wrestling, plus holiday wishes
Dec 21, 2011 - 07:36 PM

Welcome to the Wednesday One Shot. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA, Other (MMA, Indies, etc) and this week, our holiday wishes.

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): Monday night was definitely a good (and internet friendly) show. I wonder if this direction could have something to do with Vince McMahon's sudden obsession with Twitter. For a long time, online fans have felt like they don't have a voice, but now with WWE paying so much attention to Twitter, could it be the rise of the internet fan? I doubt it. I feel like this is a fleeting moment and it will soon end, but I'm willing to acknowledge another possibility.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): The rise of Daniel Bryan and Zack Ryder to prominent roles in WWE following the TLC PPV was a weird feeling. Not weird in a bad way, mind you, but it felt strange to watch two guys look to be getting a legitimate shot at their dreams of becoming champions. I look forward to watching both of them, and the entire crew of young champions in WWE. They all have a legitimate chance to take the ball and run with it.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @TheRyanKester): This week's Raw was a fun departure from the norm. WWE actually turned to their wrestling product to entertain on a holiday week show and it made for a very entertaining show.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): It's not going to stay this way for long, but right now CM Punk and Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) are the two major WWE Champions. Hope springs eternal this time of year.

TNA

Will Pruett: Remember when TNA used to brag about being the place where tag team wrestling still existed? That may have been true, but today their entire tag division is made up of teams of thrown together singles stars. This is what the "Wild Card" tournament means. Many of these acts would be (or have been) quality parts of a tag division if paired correctly. I hope this tournament is to push a good pair and not to give us a ton of Eric Young and ODB stupidity.

Jake Barnett: The Sting and Jarrett's segments from Impact last week were well done. I'm not one to generally venerate the older crew in TNA, but I think aside from the 5 minutes of AJ vs. Roode, it might have been the most entertaining thing on the show. I hope for TNA's sake they can get their act together in the booking department, because their booking misfires seem to outnumber their successes by a wide margin.

Ryan Kester: Where in the world is James Storm? TNA has one of the bets babyface sin the business at their disposal they they have been underutilizing him for weeks.

Chris Shore: TNA has become so forgettable that I'm not even sure I watched it last week. That's a shame because the show had started to improve, but the changes they go farther to make them seem like WWE lite than a stand alone wrestling promotion.

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (ROH): This is the week at ROH TV has been leading to for its entire existence. It should be the highest ROH butyrate in history. Why does it feel like there is no buzz for ROH right now? Final Battle looks to have a decent card, but with the show being two days before Christmas, even some of the most ardent wrestling fans and supporters will not be watching. I hope it is the blockbuster show they need, but I worry that it will be a disappointment butyrate-wise.

Jake Barnett (ROH): Final Battle 2011 is shaping up to be a very good show. If you aren't travelling on Friday I would recommend ordering it if you consider yourself a fan of the athletics portion of Pro Wrestling, because it will likely be some of the best action you'll see all year. I have my gripes about the way ROH builds drama and does character development, but one thing you can say for them is that for $15 you can get a pretty damn good wrestling show.

Ryan Kester (UFC): I can't wait for next Friday to get here. At UFC 141, a lot of questions about Brock Lesnar, Alistair Overeem, and the heavyweight division as a whole will be answered.

Chris Shore (ROH): One year ago I went into my first ROH iPPV, Final Battle 2010. Davey Richards was the challenger that night against Roderick Strong for the title, but it was El Generico and Kevin Steen that stole the show. This year, Davey is back in the main event as champion, but I'm willing to bet the Kevin Steen match steals the show again. Watch with me on Friday, won't you?

Special Holiday Wishes

Will Pruett: When I think of Christmas and wrestling, I tend to cringe a little bit. With all of the random Santa's that have appeared at Tribute to the Troops, midgets in court and Stone Cold Stunners that have been dealt out around this time of year, it's easy to believe that this season produces nothing but bad wrestling memories. Off the top of my head, I can remember Mick Foley winning the WWE Championship and the 2003 Shawn Michaels and Triple H match in San Antonio as great wrestling moments around the holidays. Check those out and smile at what great presents wrestling can give you.

Jake Barnett: I want to say thank you first and foremost to everyone who supports ProWrestling.net. I don't think I'm speaking out of turn when I say it means a lot to all of us that you choose us over all the other very accomplished people who report on Pro Wrestling. So, with that in mind, I'd like to wish everyone out there a wonderful Holiday Season and New Years as you celebrate your traditions all over the world.

Ryan Kester: Come Friday, the girlfriend and I are packing up and heading north to spend time with my family for Christmas. If you're traveling as well, please stay safe and have a very Merry Christmas.

Chris Shore: There it is folks. That's why I say I work with the best crew in the business. Thank you for making us a part of your day. Good tiding we bring, to you and your kin, no matter why you come together. From me to you, Merry Christmas.
