Welcome to the Wednesday One Shot. Each week, we will present a quick "one shot" thought from each staff member about the previous week in each of the following areas: WWE, TNA and Other (MMA, Indies, etc).

WWE

Will Pruett (Twitter - @itswilltime): With SummerSlam just two episodes of Raw away, it seems like WWE had to cram a lot of story into this one episode of Raw. Sure, there was a lot of hot shot angles and a whole lot given away, but the end result all centers around the hottest feud in WWE at this moment in Cena vs. Punk. I hope that WWE does not take the poor ratings as a sign that they need to give up on this feud. Remember, ratings were not good when the product was great in 1997 and this feud appeals to fans that have left WWE for MMA and other sports. Also, I don't see where WWE could go for SummerSlam without Punk returning.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake): JR IS BACK! Finally we get some competent announcing on a WWE broadcast. JR looks healthier due to weight loss and looks to still have the same fire and passion for the WWE that made him so fun to listen to over the years. JR gave the main event on Raw a distinctly PPV feel, and elevated a match that I wasn't really invested in emotionally into one of the best Raw conclusions in ages. Oh yeah, and that CM Punk guy came back.....that should be interesting.

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @Ryan_Kester): WWE is desperately trying to strike while the iron is hot with C.M. Punk and John Cena. However, I can't help but get the feeling that more could have been done to enhance this feud. They still have a few weeks until SummerSlam to change my mind, but they have a lot of work to do.

Chris Shore (Twitter - @TheShoreSlant): Randy Orton's leg crashing through the announce table on Friday got me thinking, what would WWE do if that had broken his leg? Sure, they would have been in an advantageous spot in that he wasn't the champion, but there is no one else besides Orton to really get behind on Smackdown. And I refuse that the company that has its pick of the litter in wrestling has a talent problem. Creative has done a fine job with the Raw main storyline. But everything else is suffering. If that one storyline collapses, then what? WWE needs to take a lesson from Congress and not let things get dire before doing something proactive to save the future.

TNA

Will Pruett: Rob Van Dam and Scott Steiner had a good TV match on Impact Wrestling this week, but proved another important point about TNA; they refuse to push new stars. Steiner is 48 and RVD is 40. Why should these guys be in a throw away TV match that neither of them need to get over? They should both be attractions at this stage and neither actually matters.

Jake Barnett: What is there to say about TNA? The Bound for Glory series is a nonsensical mess. The Knockouts division has become tedious, and much like the X Division in that it's mostly just the girls talking about how much they respect one another. On top of all that, the main event was a four minute squash that included four of the hottest singles wrestlers in TNA. What purpose does all this serve? How did this show anybody that Wrestling Matters? Why are all these talented people sent out there with half assed material every week? I feel bad for these talents in the back, because creative is handing them a shit sandwich and telling them to sell it like it's steak.

Ryan Kester: The Bound for Glory series is seriously beginning to plateau. TNA isn't giving it enough of their focus and I worry that by the time they get around to giving it the time it deserves, they will have lost the interest of their audience.

Chris Shore: Old guys on top, young guys held back, smaller guys marginalized to the point of embarrassment, and Hollywood Hogan and Eric Bischoff all over my screen. I wasn't talking about TNA, but having a flashback to WCW. I can understand a neophyte like Dixie Carter repeating the mistakes of the past, but you would think at least the same people wouldn't re-make the same mistakes. And yet…

Other (MMA, Indies, Etc)

Will Pruett (ROH): ROH seems to be putting good matches, but not dream matches on their first set of TV tapings and that is not a bad thing. Both the tag title match and the World Championship match are from played out feuds that fans have seen a lot of. This time, they will get to see them for free and on TV (or the internet, if you live outside of a Sinclair area). This is a good move business wise, as ROH has already made all the money they can off of these matches.

Jake Barnett (UFC): UFC 133 is coming up in about 10 days, and hopefully UFC can avoid injuries between now and next week, because watching this card get formed has been rife with disappointment. There have been a total of four injuries to fighters on this card in their training camps, three fights have been shelved for a later date, and now Tito Ortiz has stepped up to take a fight on short notice with Rashad Evans to main event this card. This is a fight where Ortiz is considered a very heavy underdog, and he has a lot to prove to people who are still skeptics about his resurgence. Vitor Belfort and Yoshihiro Akiyama should have the opportunity to steal the show, as both of those guys are excellent technical fighters with knockout power. I'm still looking forward to that fight, but the rest of this card has lost a lot of steam for me. We'll see how that reflects in the PPV buys August 6.

Ryan Kester (ROH): I am absolutely anticipating ROH's return to television this September. WWE has delivered some excellent matches as of late, but I quickly became addicted to ROH with what I saw from the end of their run on HDNet.

Chris Shore (Evo): Pro Wrestling Evo went back to its very short roots this past weekend and proved that independent wrestling can be as good as the big boys. The show was smartly booked and I just found out today, turned a profit. Three shows in and a profit is virtually unheard of. And the advent of social media and roaming connectivity might actually give some of these groups the chance to get bigger than in years past. Evo is doing their part.
