Twilling's WWE Survivor Series preview and predictions: Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett for the WWE Championship with John Cena as the special referee; will Cena be fired? Will The Miz leave the show as the WWE Champion?
Nov 21, 2010 - 12:15 PM

By Rich Twilling

The following predictions are made without any inside knowledge of the match finishes. I am guessing just like you are.

-Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett for the WWE Championship with John Cena as the special referee. Cena will be out of The Nexus regardless of the outcome, but he will be fired if Barrett does not win the WWE Championship. Right off the bat, we can eliminate the idea that Barrett will defeat Orton cleanly. I just do not see that happening whatsoever.

So, we are left with a couple of options. I will lead off with my prediction. Although The Nexus is banned from ringside, I feel they will be a distraction. Perhaps David Otunga is kicked out of the group earlier in the show as a decoy and he comes out later to distract Cena, the referee.

This distraction will force Cena to miss out on counting the three count for Orton. Barrett will then use Orton's anger toward Cena against him and hit the Wasteland. Cena will have no other choice but to count to three and award Barrett the WWE Championship. The Nexus will then hit the ring, but Orton and Cena will fight them off.

Following this, Barrett will receive both an Attitude Adjustment and a RKO. The Miz's music will hit and he will come out to the ring. Barrett will come to but will be groggy. Miz will hit the Skull Crushing Finale and walk out of Miami as the new WWE Champion. That's my prediction, although it could go a couple of other ways.

Cena could count the pinfall for Orton and be fired, leading to him coming back as a masked character. Or, Cena could turn heel, award Barrett the championship, and solidify the Survivor Series as the pay-per-view where big screw jobs happen. That would be a good scenario, but I don't see it happening. The Miz will become the WWE Champion.

-Kane vs. Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship: Edge is going to win the World Heavyweight Championship again, but it is not going to be on this show. If they have a major title change here, it will be overshadowed by whatever happens in the main event. Thus, Kane will retain here somehow and the title change will highlight the next pay-per-view. Edge wins by disqualification.

-Daniel Bryan vs. Ted DiBiase for the United States Championship: DiBiase can be a solid challenger for Bryan for the time being, but he should not and will not win the belt. Bryan as a long term champion going into a WrestleMania feud with C.M. Punk will be money. Solid match here, but Bryan retains after tapping out DiBiase with the LeBell Lock.

-Team Mysterio (Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, MVP, Chris Masters, and Big Show) vs. Team Del Rio (Alberto Del Rio, Jack Swagger, Tyler Reks, Drew McIntyre, and Cody Rhodes) in a traditional Survivor Series match: This is weak in terms of the traditional match this show was originally named after. Of course, WWE has killed the gimmick over the past few months.

As for this match, normally I would go with the babyfaces, but in this case, I am flipping the switch. Del Rio will survive for his team, and I think one other guy will join him. So, I will go with Del Rio and Reks, with Del Rio and Swagger as my wildcard pick.

-Dolph Ziggler vs. Kaval for the Intercontinental Championship: I predict a very entertaining match. After about eight to ten minutes of great action, Ziggler will retain the championship.

-Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel vs. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov for the Tag Team Championships: I could possibly see Slater and Gabriel losing, prompting Wade Barrett to "kick them out" of the group as well and distract Cena later in the show. However, I am going to go with the champions retaining, giving the idea at this point in the show that The Nexus will walk out with a lot of gold.

-Sheamus vs. John Morrison: The first match of a feud they have been building up for awhile? Sheamus wins and the feud continues. I will give this a chance to be the dark horse match of the show. These two have worked well together before and especially in Morrison's case, he has a lot to gain by turning out a great performance.

-Layla and Michelle McCool vs. Natalya for the Divas Championship in a handicap match: I thought a few months back Natalya would end up with the belt(s) after this program, but that is no longer the case. LayCool will retain their belts because Natalya just hasn't captured the reaction from the crowd a chasing babyface should have by now.
