Today's Rundown: Austin, Bret and Vince, Batista, Jericho vs. Michaels, Cena vs. Show, Hunter vs. Orton, Legacy triple threat, Sheamus, divas
Steve Austin as the guest host: I am buying Austin on the show and really enjoyed seeing him. Sure, the days of him being able to say what he wants and stunning everyone are long gone, but it was great to see him again. He looked relaxed and refreshed.
I would have liked to have seen more of Austin on the show, but they hit on most of the interactions I was hoping to see. Austin and Shawn Michaels had a nice backstage segment. Austin was good during the Bret Hart and Vince McMahon angle as well. I wouldn't have minded seeing Austin go face to face with all of his past adversaries, but that wasn't to be on this show.
Bret Hart and Vince McMahon contract signing: I will buy this as well. I was curious to see if Austin would involve himself in the match at Mania, but I did like how he used his guest hosting powers to put Stu Hart in the Hall of Fame. I also always like when someone gets the intellectual best of Vince. Sure, it was predictable, but they got to the desired finish and now it is all systems go for WrestleMania.
Batista vs. Kofi Kingston: This is a buy and it isn't so much about the match as it is Batista's awesome heel character. He has really reinvented himself here and it's great because it seems natural to Big Dave. He is at his best right now and although they seem to be setting up a title change at Mania, it would be nice to see Batista carry the belt out of the biggest show of the year.
Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels: I will buy this just because it is always a pleasure to see them in the ring together. The WrestleMania rewind concept is a good one on paper, but it is next to impossible to have an unpredictable finish because nobody needs a loss going into WrestleMania.
John Cena vs. Big Show: I will buy this one as well because Show got the victory. A Cena win over Big Show would have rendered the tag team championships unimportant again. Of course, Show not coming to the ring with the belts or The Miz made little sense. Batista distracting Cena enough to lose was a positive for everyone involved.
Triple H vs. Randy Orton: This was the best match of the night and for that, it gets a buy. Orton's babyface turn seems to be complete and I have to admit, it is weird to see Orton and Hunter teaming together. Call me crazy, but "I'm sorry I DDTed and kissed your wife, but it's cool now because we are both babyfaces" isn't a great argument to mend fences.
Orton vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Cody Rhodes announced for WrestleMania: I am going to sell this because I think it is a disservice to Orton and DiBiase. Orton has been one of the best heels in wrestling over the past year and the stage was set for a white hot DiBiase face turn. Instead, Orton turned and DiBiase was sort of left in the cold having to carry Rhodes with him. This match doesn't look bad, but it could have been better for two of the three participants.
Sheamus promo: I am enjoying his promos and will buy this one. Sheamus is the type of heel I have been wanting to see for a long time. He is not someone who tries to do underhanded things to win matches. He comes right at people and wants to challenge the top babyfaces. I like that. I like that he wants Triple H at Mania. I think he will win that match and find himself back in the championship picture. He still has Cena's number too.
Divas: While I am please with the direction of the TNA Knockouts Division, I am selling what WWE is doing with their female roster. Does either title mean anything? Is there a meaningful feud on either show? Does anyone care whether or not the women get a match at WrestleMania? If they do get a match, won't it just be a filler match to get them on the card? This division has taken a severe nosedive and hopefully they get on track after WrestleMania.
