TNA Impact Hits
Opening segment with A.J. Styles, Ric Flair, and Hulk Hogan: Hot segment to open up the show. That was both the best Flair has been in a very long time and perhaps the best Styles has ever been on the mic. Hogan came out and it was great to see him and Flair verbally spar again.
Eric Bischoff and Jeff Jarrett: This is a marginal hit for me as I have stated many times how much I am enjoying Bischoff's character. Jarrett is playing his role well too, but I am just wondering what the big payoff is going to be here. I like that Jarrett is back in a full time role without being in the title picture right now. All in all, they continue to turn out solid segments.
Mr. Anderson: I criticized having the microphone drop from the ceiling in the locker room, but for some reason, I enjoyed it in the backstage interview area. It's odd, the microphone and self introduction was always his gimmick and he was oftentimes negatively labeled. However, now, along with being heel again, it is working for him.
Beer Money promo: Very solid promo by two guys who are very solid, in different ways, on the mic. One thing about TNA I always liked was the tag team division and they've strayed away from that lately, so hopefully this is a sign of things to come. I think a long Beer Money title reign will do wonders for the belts.
Daffney: Two weeks in a row and they have really established her as the an unstable threat to the Knockouts Championship. Occasionally, TNA does a good job building someone from next to nothing and they are off to a great start with Daffney.
TNA Impact Misses
Team 3D vs. The Nasty Boys: I'm wondering if Team 3D will be able to move on from this feud now. I don't really have anything against the Nasty Boys, but it is 2010 and they haven't been in their prime for over fifteen years. This tag team division could really set TNA apart from WWE in a positive way and Team 3D should be the older, veteran team, not the Nasty Boys.
Hernandez on the mic: Matt Morgan is a decent promo, but he sounded like Chris Jericho compared to Hernandez. I'm not really sure what it was, but Hernandez just sucked the life out of everything every time he opened his mouth. Also, he is known for his size, but he looks tiny compared to Morgan. I like Hernandez though and I hope TNA still has high hopes for him.
Abyss promo: I just do not like the current Abyss character. It is like he evolved from a neurotic, nervous child to a loud and confident neurotic, nervous child. The less he says, the better. I think he has plenty to offer, so hopefully this program with Hogan will eliminate the campiness of his character.
Scott Hall and Syxx Pac beat up Kevin Nash and Eric Young: I am borderline enjoying the Young and Nash pairing and I'm probably in the minority there. However, Young is made to look very weak and not on the same level as the other three. On top of that, what is the payoff here. A tag match? Will that be something we want to see on pay-per-view? Will Nash turn on Young? What happens to Eric at that point?
X Division and Global Championships: The tag team division could be getting back on track. They are putting a little more effort into the Knockouts, but these two divisions are such afterthoughts. Kazarian won a X Division Championship match and nobody could care less. I'm guessing Kaz will end up with the belt, so hopefully he will be the one to rejuvenate the division. The Global Championship means nothing, although there is something about Rob Terry that suggests he will get over with the TNA fans.
Abyss vs. Desmond Wolfe: This is a miss because Wolfe lost in less than two minutes. However, if Wolfe ends up permanently aligned with Styles and Flair, I will love it. Wolfe would be a perfect third member of that group. Oh, and bonus negative points for Abyss breaking the handcuffs so easily, Hogan looking very physically broken down in the ring, and making the big announcement for Hogan and Abyss vs. Flair and Styles after a commercial break two minutes before the top of the hour.
