Twilling's TNA Impact Hitlist: The Pope and Ric Flair, Mr. Anderson attacks Kurt Angle, X Division eight man tag, Orlando Jordan beats Samoa Joe, Hulk Hogan gives his Hall of Fame ring to Abyss
Feb 19, 2010 - 02:02 PM

TNA Impact Hits

The Pope opens the show and verbally spars with Ric Flair: Pope won the tournament to earn a title shot at A.J. Styles and TNA opened the show with him. Pope delivered in is promo and after Ric Flair and Styles arrived, he delivered in his interaction with Flair as well. The first way to make a new star is to give that person the ball, and right now Pope is running with it.

Kurt Angle and Mr. Anderson interaction: Angle's promo was pretty damn good and like I said in my report, he can get away with delivering a pro USA message while still sounding genuine. Anderson was great in retaliation and beating down Angle was icing on the cake. On top of that, this is a feud that is completely separate from the World Championship, which is a good thing.

X Division eight man tag team match: Although it was too short and didn't showcase every participant, it was still a very entertaining match that displayed how much talent TNA has in the division. If they put some effort and time into building the division back up, it could be very entertaining again.

Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bischoff: I am enjoying both characters right now. Jarrett plays the sympathetic babyface very well and Bischoff is the cocky, heel boss to everyone on the show. Both guys are constantly involved in solid segments and it's interesting to speculate what will happen with both of them.

Daffney attacks Tara: I don't think TNA is going to put the Knockouts Title on Daffney, but they made her a legitimate threat by having her get the best of Tara in a savage attack. The rest of the division took the night off, which I don't agree with, but this attack will go a long way in building the depth of the division.

TNA Impact Misses

Two promo segments to end the show for the second straight week: Last week, The Band closed out the show. This week, The Band closed out the show. Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Syxx Pac, Eric Young, and later, Hulk Hogan, closed out a TNA Impact show in 2010. I actually like the rub Young is getting out of this, and the other guys are fine, but they should not be ending the show.

Hulk Hogan gives his WWE Hall of Fame ring to Abyss: If Abyss stops acting like a little bitch, then this will end up being a positive segment. Other than that, it was way too cartoonish and a bit ridiculous that Hogan would give his ring to someone he barely knows.

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall close out the show: I touched on this already, but Hall and Nash in a pull apart brawl as the show goes off the air? Is that what people really want to see? Is Hall vs. Nash a pay-per-view main event or even a high profile pay-per-view match? I would say yes in 1998, but not in 2010.

Orlando Jordan defeats Samoa Joe: I know Joe is involved in a bigger storyline that saw him getting kidnapped later in the show (also a miss), but damn, Bischoff got in his face before his match and he still lost in three minutes. How many times does Joe have to go away to "find his killer instinct" only to come back and be just another guy? Joe is a unique talent that is being wasted right now.

Kurt Angle beats Daniels in a minute: I think Daniels is being severely misused. I felt he was where he should have been when he was headlining pay-per-views with Styles. He lost this match to Angle in under a minute and was not heard from again. Whether or not he continues to main event, he shouldn't be losing to anyone in a minute on Impact.

Beer Money vs. The British Invasion: Beer Money is another forgotten duo on this show, which seems to be the case with a lot of the TNA originals. Sure, they won this match, but it was a throwaway tag team match in the middle of the show. It wasn't important in the grand scheme of things and like Joe, Daniels, and the Machine Guns, Beer Money is being wasted right now.
