Today's Rundown: Shatner, Hart, McMahon, and Batista, Edge and Sheamus, HBK, EC qualifiers, Legacy, tag titles, Brisco, overall show
William Shatner in the funniest Raw segment of all time: I am buying this as the funniest segment I have ever seen on Raw. I thought it was absolutely hilarious hearing him dramatically read the wrestler theme songs and I've already watched it on YouTube a few times. Overall, Shatner was solid as the guest host and further proved that the actual wrestling fans make the best guest hosts.
Bret Hart and Vince McMahon confrontation: I will buy the segment and the buildup to the segment with the historical footage throughout the entire show. Bret and Vince both turned it up a notch here with extra, added intensity. On top of that, they really amped up the personal nature of the feud. We all know the obvious regarding Montreal and everything involving that.
For Vince to take things a step further and bring to light what many people felt were Bret's shortcomings (lack of charisma, not as big of a star as HBK, Mr. Perfect, etc.) was great television. As for Batista and most likely John Cena, if Vince and Bret cannot go in a one-on-one match, I am just fine making it a star studded tag team match. We will still get the Sharpshooter WrestleMania moment. It also keeps Cena and Big Dave away from the top belts.
Edge promo and Sheamus tease: I will buy mostly every part of segment. I like that Edge opened the show because he won the Rumble and thus, deserved that opening spot. I doubt we are going to get Edge vs. Sheamus, but the tease was necessary and very well done. Sheamus cut another good heel promo and Edge was solid. I wish Edge would have acknowledged possibly challenging Christian, but that was my only complaint.
Shawn Michaels' somber character: I will buy the entire night for Michaels, even though the announcers made him out to be a little baby at times. Besides that, I love his frustration and how he is expressing it. Shawn's personal road to facing Taker at WrestleMania is a great story. On top of that, Triple H was great in consoling Michaels and Michaels had a very enjoyable match with Randy Orton.
Elimination Chamber qualifying matches: With the pay-per-view in three weeks, I thought the qualifiers in one night were really well done, so I am buying. Sure, the finishes were predictable, but nonetheless, they still did the right thing having the wrestlers win their way into the Chamber match.
Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase: The ongoing storyline with Legacy has been slow building and very strongly done, so I am buying. With Orton and DiBiase, but not Cody Rhodes, in the Chamber match, I'm sure the upcoming weeks will be even more intriguing. With Cena, Batista, Michaels, and Legacy, top guys who might normally be in the title picture have different things on their mind heading into WrestleMania, which is a positive thing.
Announcement of next week's tag team championship match: I'll buy this as a fairly huge announcement. The tag titles are still on the back burner, but let's face it, over the past year, thanks in large part to Chris Jericho, the tag team, Intercontinental, and United States Championships have grown more prestigious. I'm guessing a Michaels' meltdown will lead to new champions next week.
Jack Brisco video package: This is an obvious buy. WWE is being selective in how they honor their fallen stars/former stars based on how they left us, but let's look at the positives with Brisco. The graphic being shown more than once, the work of the announcers, and the video were all very classy and well done.
Overall show: Since I bought everything on the show, I'll buy the show itself. This was one of the strongest shows in a string of much better shows since January 4th. Let's hope things continue to stay hot going into and past WrestleMania. WWE definitely has momentum right now and it shows that those responsible for the show are excited about the product right now.
