WWE Royal Rumble preview and predictions: Will a surprise name win the Rumble match? Can Sheamus and The Undertaker retain their WWE and World Heavyweight Championships, respectively?
Jan 31, 2010 - 09:54 AM |
The following predictions are being made without any inside knowledge of the match finishes. I am guessing just like you are.
Royal Rumble match: Normally, this is the most exciting and intriguing match of the year (and it should be better than last year's debacle). The favorites are Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and John Cena. Batista and The Big Show will get some attention as well.
Predicting this match will be a lot easier after knowing what happens earlier in the evening. I have a few possible scenarios, but for the sake of being fair, I'll only name one of them. Right now, The Undertaker will not face Michaels at Mania. So, Michaels will cost Taker the World Heavyweight Championship. Taker will return the favor by eliminating Shawn from the Rumble, and C.M. Punk will win the Rumble match. I also think Edge will return and eliminate Chris Jericho, but Christian will turn heel and eliminate Edge.
The Undertaker vs. Rey Mysterio for the World Heavyweight Championship: I pretty much predicted this one already, as I think Rey will win and go onto WrestleMania to defend against Punk. I still think Taker vs. Shawn will be the final match at WrestleMania this year, title or not. Triple H, or anyone for that matter, will not want to follow them again.
Sheamus vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship: This is the Rumble, so it is easier to get away with a disqualification finish in a championship match, given that the Rumble itself is the true main event. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase will interfere on Orton's behalf. Ted's interference will backfire and Orton will either lose or get disqualified.
As a result, Orton will want Ted's spot in the Rumble. Ted will say no and Randy will either beat the shit out of him, rendering him unable to participate in the match. Or, Orton will interfere and eliminate Ted from the Rumble, further laying the foundation for their one-on-one WrestleMania match. Sheamus will look forward to a Mania date with Triple H.
Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson for the ECW Championship: Christian has done as much with the belt as he possibly could and has done a great job. However, it is time for a change and it seems WWE wants to let Big Zeke run with the belt. Christian has been displaying some heel tendencies while announcing, so I see him losing here and involving himself in the Rumble as I mentioned above.
Michelle McCool vs. Mickie James for the WWE Woman's Championship: If Mickie does get another run with the title, it is not going to happen on this show. Michelle will retain and will most likely find herself in a high profile match at WrestleMania. Perhaps WWE can land Trish Stratus for that show, she can win the belt, and as a going away present, give it to her old friend Mickie.
