WWE “ECW on Syfy” Hits

The Abraham Washington Show: Tony Atlas saved this thing from “cancellation” we he debuted, but Abe was much better last night too. He was toned down from the over the top heel and it worked pretty well. I’m not sure if they are making him a babyface, but anything would be better than the way his current character is constituted.

John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler on TAWS: It was a nice treat to have two Smackdown superstars in the show and in this case, two future main even stars. I don’t want to see this every week because it would make a show with Yoshi Tatsu on it seem less special, but every once in awhile, I would like this.

Zack Ryder has dissention with William Regal: Since they are both heels, I was afraid they were just going to get along, but after putting down Ryder’s attempt at becoming the ECW Champion last week, Ryder should have been pissed at Regal. I like that he had a problem with him.

Changing of the main event: I thought it was odd to put a wrestler in charge while Tiffany was recuperating from her injury. Then Regal made a four-on-one match, and for once, someone on the “board of directors” undid what a heel general manager unfairly booked. It made sense.

Sheamus attacks Shelton Benjamin before Shelton’s match: I like the way they have built up Sheamus since he has debuted. He had a drawn out feud with Goldust that he got the best of, and now he is involved in a feud with Shelton. The pre-match attack was brutal and it really put over Sheamus as a badass.

WWE “ECW on Syfy” Misses

Main event eight man tag team match: In a word, it was slow. An almost sixteen minute match, only the last minute or two was action packed. Also, I found it odd that Yoshi Tatsu scored the pinfall on Regal, who seems to be the next in line for a title shot. Perhaps Yoshi is being pushed towards a title shot as well, since he now has pinfall victories over Ryder and Regal.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Paul Burchill: Benjamin being attacked before the match made it logical that he would not be 100% during his match. However, he sold, and sold, and sold. Burchill is one of the most underutilized talents in WWE, but like anyone else, being on the offensive for most of a ten plus minute match is not going to translate well on television. Then, out of nowhere, Shelton won the match. That was great for Shelton, but it showed Burchill could win a match he dominated against an already weakened opponent.
