TNA Impact Hits
Kurt Angle vs. Doug Williams: A really enjoyable match between two guys that have very similar styles. Seeing the two of them work together just pointed to a potentially good program between the two if Williams can work his way into becoming a big enough star. Very good stuff between the two.
Ric Flair promo: When Flair flips the switch, his promos are not only great, but they are an illustration of what is missing from the promos of a lot of new talents in any of the major companies. His passion and ability to grab the listener (viewer) is still amazing. The Fortune guys should be studying Flair's every move.
Mr. Anderson vs. Jay Lethal: Solid, but short television match between the two. Lethal was the "push of the month" and has seemed to lose steam. Anderson winning and moving on in the tournament was the right thing. I wish they would have capitalized more on Lethal though.
TNA Impact Misses
Lack of importance on the TNA Heavyweight Championship: Eric Bischoff did a great job delivering the news Rob Van Dam is no longer the TNA Champion and there would be a tournament. However, the execution of the tournament was bad. No brackets right away. Four matches thrown out there on Impact. No real focus on any of the matches. This the top TNA belt. They should make the tournament a very big deal and it seemed to be anything but.
EV2.0 calls out Fortune: After Flair did his thing, EV2.0 and Dixie Carter came out to the stage and interjected. Mick Foley turned on the intensity, but it still wasn't a good promo by Foley's standards. The worst part of this is that Dreamer is the leader of EV2.0, but how many fans want to see Dreamer wrestle the different members of Fortune? What if Fortune gets a female member? Will Dixie put on the boots at that point?
A.J. Styles vs. Tommy Dreamer: Given that both men are the leaders of their factions, this was the money matchup of this feud, and it is anything but. On top of that, Styles needed help from Abyss to win this match. A brawl took place. What can TNA do to make things fresh here?
Kevin Nash, Sting, Jeff Jarrett, and Hulk Hogan segment: Nobody knows what Nash and Jarrett are talking about, still, and now Sting is involved. Hogan came out and I pointed out that the four men were over 200 years old. I don't necessarily care how old someone is, if they can still make money for the company. Besides Hogan, who in this segment can still make money for the company?
Abyss and Jeff Hardy brawl to open the show: The brawl was very tame. The fans that had arrived and the production team just watched in passing, as if they could have done other things while the fight was going on. Nobody seemed shocked. Nobody seemed scared. Then it was over. Nothing gained.
Angelina Love vs. Madison Rayne: This was more of a case of hurrying through things. Angelina and Velvet Sky are back on the same page, but it all happened really quickly. They still haven't revealed the motorcycle chick, even though we all know who it is. So, how many times can Angelina face Madison? The division is stale.
